Another tree ?

This is an example of the trees I planted last year.Would I be better off cutting back some of the lower branches,and putting on taller tree tubes?I guess now would be a good time to do some pruning.

I dont like tubes for apples, unless your talking certain varieties of crabs. The little short one you have there is fine to protect from borers but I wouldnt go longer. They build up to much heat and dont allow the tree to cool off quick enough in the Fall. Also increases bug activity right around the tree with a nesting place. The tube issue seems to be about a 80 percent oppose, 20 percent favor thing among apple growers with most opposers in the South, due to heat.
