Andy Morgan steps away from the Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour - This was a big surprise to me.

But I do love the way Andy pulls no punches in the video explaining his reasoning. Yep, his dislike of Livescope is a factor. Details and the video here: https://newschannel9.com/sports/out...away-from-major-league-fishing-bass-pro-tour#

It's gotten to who can be the best at operating the electronics vs just who has the experience, knowledge and IQ to find fish IMO. I don't blame him, like he said, he's 54, he saw the world/fishing before livescope.
You take the sophisticated electronics off the boats and alot of the young ones would be lost, some would still do ok and a few would still excel because they are smart enough.
I've had more than 1 friend tell me that are my age that they don't fish tournaments anymore because of ffs, they say either get it and get better than everybody else with it or lose ( or just stop tournament fishing). They said it's that simple.

Andy is a cool guy to hang out with. He will give them a lesson in the NPFL.

It sounds like he has found where he wants to be. Will that impact technology. I doubt it.

Even though I'm old, I'm a technology guy. But it's not always a good thing. The obvious answer here is to have competitions with and without technology. Each will either support itself or die.

We are at a place tech wise in fishing that was beyond anyones dream in just a decade or 2. In the future what if AI can predict location, water depth and temp, the right bait, the right way to fish it? What if it becomes a commercially available product? Will that be ok? I'm being serious, I believe it is possible. It's said lately AI can pick lottery numbers with a real chance at winning as astronomically almost impossible as that seems.

AI is the future whether we like it or not. It can do things that we won't like, it will take jobs. But it will also save lives.

It can't pick ping pong balls falling out of a basket. If it could, it would have already done it. But if anyone believes it could do that it opens it up to some pretty amazing things. What it can do in the medical field may save some of our lives.

Will it be used for evil? Of course, just like guns/cars/drugs. They can keep you safe or take your life.

its fairly decent at it now. johnny's software is fairly decent.

i only use ffs for crappie. since they suspend on structure in large groups, it is easy to see how it helps. i dont bass fish lakes so im not sure how much it helps you with bass.....but im assuming it must

I haven't seen it in person but have seen the social media reports on the local bass tournaments. The guys that used to win it all are not even in the money much anymore. The new names with FFS are winning 80% of the tournaments I see pictures of.

For people who compile data when they fish AI will make it so much easier to form predictive models that are accurate. The free versions of AI that folks are using are powerful, but the paid versions are really powerful.

The switch to every fish counts at MLF was different enough. Combine that with FFS, and it's a completely different ball game than what he knows and wants to fish. Understand his stance on the situation.

Humminbird has what they call SmartStrike and it's been around for several years now. It's a program for Lakemaster maps that you tell it what species of fish you're after, the time of year, and weather conditions. Then it highlights the highly likely places on the particular lake you are fishing on the maps. It gives you fairly decent starting points. As technology gets better, it will be interesting to see how anglers and fish adapt. My guess is it won't be too long in the near future when it will be almost impossible to fish most of the year due to pleasure and luxury yachts.

I would love to se Andy win one quick in the NPFL and get his old-school drive back. That would be great to see.

Same as deer "scouting " with cameras.
I wouldn't say they are exactly the same. If your looking at a fish on a livescope you are standing over it and about to try to catch that fish. If my camera sends me a picture of a buck right now, well I'm 45 minutes away at work and that deer is long gone.

I don't think their is any denying before ffs you had to have experience, knowledge, a mind that could put the conditions together to find fish, with ffs you just go looking for them in real time. You still have to know where to look but you have real time conformation if you have or haven't found them.
I do know I have a friend that fishes yak tournaments and never caught much till he got ffs then he started catching alot.

It definitely helps, even if you aren't good at it. I saw a video or heard on a podcast where a guy explained it like this…..Take Kevin Van Dam for example, one of the best to ever do it. Probably 95% of his casts were not made directly toward a fish. At least not intentionally, because he had no way of knowing it was there. Now take (insert the name of any of the new young guns that are dominating FFS tournaments), probably 95% of their casts are intentionally directed towards a fish, because they can see it. In certain tournaments, these guys simply don't waste blind casts, but wait until they have spotted a fish. That in itself leads to more catches.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, these young guys that predominantly use FFS can still fish though. Tucker Smith, who has quickly made a name for himself using FFS, just won $500,000 in a tournament on Lake Guntersville a few weeks ago without FFS. This tournament did not allow FFS, and he beat out countless other pros and guides.

The older guys are behind the curve on learning the new technology. Some can, some can't. They're kinda like my parents when it comes to using computers. I like Andy and hope he does well on NPFL.

I have livescope and like using it, but some days it just makes me mad. But I'm definitely a no-pro.
