I've just purchased a 308 single shot rifle and I would like to know what name brand ammo. everyone is using, I like 150 grain bullets.

I always used 150 grain Remington Core Lokt bullets.
Until I bought my first Encore and for whatever reason it really didn't like them.
I bought the rifle used and the barrel came with a partial box of shells that I didn't even want to try.
168 grain hollow point, Black Hills Custom Match ammo.
I am telling ya, it was the ABSOLUTE most accurate rifle / ammo combo that I have ever shot in my life.
Scary accurate !
Suffice it to say when I got my next two Encores and next two .308 barrels for my son and I, I loaded up on that ammo.
Kinda pricey, but knowing where your cross hairs are at is where the bullet is going is worth it.

Shooting a 308, I have always noticed that my best groups were with 165 bullets. When I had my 308 Encore barrel, I think Ruger owns it now, it shot 165 Fusions pretty much into one hole. I have also noticed that when I reload the 130 grain Tipped TSX, the groups are pretty tight as well with velocities in the 3100 fps range.

the Black Hills ammo is loaded with the 168 Sierra Match King bullet,,as in the Federal Gold Metal Match,,it is hard to load that bullet in a 308 and make it shoot bad,,

I like the Sierra 165 Game King BTHP and RL 15,,Ethan swears by the 125 NBT and H-4895

seriously, with the 308 just about anything will work

I forgot to say that the 308 single rife that I purchased has a 22 inch barrel on it would this effect what ammo I use in it? It also has a 3by9 Nikon scope on it.

I`ve shot the same load from 18 1/2 inch Model 7`s and 26 inch varmint rigs that shoot one hole groups,,

20-22 inches is hard to beat for a 308 IMO

There are lots of good ammos for the 308. It's hard to go wrong. If you're just looking for a cheap factory round look at the Federal Classic 165. I used it when I first started deer hunting and got excellent results with it. Really, any of either Federal Classics, Remington CoreLokts, or Winchester PowerPoints in 150 or 165grs. will do great and have good accuracy and reasonable prices for our little scrawny whitetails.
