I plan on making an all day sit saturday, for those of you experienced in this what do you normally pack to eat for lunch? What advice do you have for things to put in the backpack that are easy to forget?

Good advice so far imo. Pack your snacks in an airtight ziplok baggie too. Been a while since I was able to sit all day, family obligations and such pretty much put a damper on those kind of hunts for me a few years ago. No complaints tho, those days are hard to do anytime pretty much!

I'll be sitting all day Sat & Sun (if necessary). I'll bring a quart water bottle plus a 12 ounce water bottle, a couple granola bars, some almonds in a glad container, a sammich, and some poptarts.

Nuts, jerky, apple, plenty of water. Chocolate will give you a noticeable boost when you are sitting perfectly still and trying to stay awake.

My other advice is turn your phone off and don't look at the time. The clock is your enemy on an all day sit. Also, everything you do, do it very slowly. If you are going to eat some nuts, eat them one at a time and take your time to chew it as many times as possible. You have to slow down your mind to adjust to the passage of time, otherwise, you'll start getting ancy. Eventually, your mind just gives in and allows you to hit a state of meditation.

Great post

I did this last year. I think you received some great advise on what to take to the field to help keep ya in place. However, I took an hour run back to camp, came back and just steps away from my stand found a nice pile of pellets left for me as the big middle finger. BLEW IT.....

Cliff bars. They are small but pack a lot of calories. 3 Cliff bars can hold me over.

I've been trying to get on stand at 10:00 am and hunt till dark. This allows me to catch mid day and evening action. Its a lot more doable than sitting all day.

I advise that you remove all snacks from the plastic wrapper. Almost impossible to remove the wrapper while on stand without making lots of noise.

I prefer to remove at the hosue and wrap in a paper towel.

It is much easier to just shoot one around 8am and come down. :D

I suggest whatever you decide to bring to unwrap it and put it in zip loc bags. They are MUCH quiter than candy bar and honey bun wrappers. Also be aware that food with strong smells (like honey buns) can actually draw deer in, so be on the lookout when eating and immediately after. I refrain from coffee on all day sits because it is a natural laxative...

Don't jump in front of me while I'm typing!

im sitting all day Saturday and sunday unless I kill both mornings. I bring two or three bottle water a diet sundrop or two. snickers are a great source of energy so I bring a few of those. usually ill pick up a sausage biscuit from the store to eat or bring a sandwich.

I am going to pack like I am going to sit all day both Sat and Sun. It will all depend on what the weather and deer are doing to decide if I do, but I am leaning this way.

On an all day sit, I will take a sandwich bag and fill it with the trail mix that includes peanuts, almonds, raisins, and M&Ms. I will then take a few of the small snickers out of the wrapper and place in that bag as well. I will then take another small sandwich bag and put a can of viennas or beanie weanies in it with a handful of crackers. That is my snack and lunch. I will bring two or three bottles of water with me as well.

An all day sit will flat wear you out more than you think.

Back to the comment of certain foods attracting deer. Apple Cider is a big one. When i was young my papaw took me hunting and he always drank hot apple cider instead of coffee. I watched 2 does walk within feet of us sniffing the air. My guess was them sniffing the cider. Anything sweet. Eat an apple or two and throw the core down on a trail. Make some peanut butter crackers and throw those down.

You all willing to sit all day have my respect. I have no interest in doing so. I want hunting to be fun, not a chore. If the choice is between having a fun and enjoyable hunt, or killing deer, I'll choose the fun part!

This could easily be bordering on baiting, careful.

What he said

A couple more ideas:

1) I have a little tiny radio/ear plugs and listen to tunes or a football game every so often; just provides a little diversion.
2) Use your binoculars often; it helps break up the monotony of staring at the same scenery for hours on end.
3) Years ago I "customized" a Summit climber and I swear...if I'm not careful I'll fall asleep. A little extra padding, lumbar support, footrest, neoprene inside the seat/butt for insulation and warmth, fanny pack w/cupholder on the side where I can get to stuff with minimal noise and movement.

As long as there's a few critters...birds, squirrels, and maybe a deer every so often I can do it.
