First, if you don't have a lot to spend, there's nothing wrong with the low end AK's (Century built Romanian stamped AK's)as long as you are able to examine them yourself before you purchase. Here is a great resource for AK information.....and these guys will tell you the same thing I am.

Do some searches on "Milled versus stamped" and you'll find Most people these days will argue that the stamped recievers are better then the milled.....regardless of how the milled just "feels" better. I was very skeptical of the low end AK's before I bought. I did a lot of research, then hand picked one from a dealer.
I have shot over 2000 rounds thru mine with no problems at all. Very accurate and dependable.
I have a stamped Romanian AK....$399.00. I have 4 friends with Ak's.....3 that are milled guns that all cost over 650.00. We have clamped all 5 down and tested with the same ammo.....and only one of them will outshoot mine as far as grouping goes. The most expensive one...$800.00, an import by panther arms, is actually the worst shooting one of the bunch.
When buying a cheap century build, it's important that you hand pick it. Make sure everything is tight and the bolt works flawlessly, and that the front sights aren't canted. They are warranted like any other gun and can be returned if you find any issues.
Good luck
