Afternoon hunting????

Never was able to hunt turkeys later in the day. Illinois closed at 1:00 pm.
Yesterday afternoon seemed like turkeypalooza out there.
I went fishing instead
So my question is, got any tips?
Do they feed in fields before heading to the roost for the evening?
Is it more of a sit and wait, shoot and scoot?
Same as the mornings?
Just get out there? Can't shoot a turkey from the couch.

More sit n wait. Soft calling, scratch in leaves, hangout where they loaf during the afternoon bugging and just doing their turkey thing. They're bad to just show up unannounced...far less gobbling in the afternoon.
