Awesome. You're right nothing like taking a kid. That move you made to the bottom was a great move. I've learned over the years the aggressive moves work for me. Congrats!
I'm certainly aggressive at times, but sprinting across the bottom would be fairly described as "stupid" in most situations. I'm not used to having a designated spot to get back to. If I was by myself, I obviously would have just picked a tree and worked the turkey on the ridge. I think calling from the top of the ridge worked just like I'd hoped. I don't know that he could have heard me calling from the bottom. But I should have immediately started back to the boys when I first thought I heard a gobble instead of letting him get that close. But once that mistake was made and he gobbled close, it was just a foot race. I had to get back across the bottom before he made it to the crest. Being patient or moving slow wasn't really an option at that point. I'll have to recalibrate a few things when hunting with kids.
