Adjusting trigger

if its an accutrigger you can adjust it to 2.5 lbs safely. if its an older savage around 3.5 pounds.

so that said, here is a link that explains how to do it. be very careful and do not go below 3lbs, cause it will slam fire.

if you want a lighter trigger than this, then buy a timney or better yet get a sharpshooter trigger.

It is the older style. You wouldnt happen to have a clue what they come factory set would ya? What i got going on is i normally shoot a browning a-bolt in a .270wsm the gun i am working on is just a gun that usually sets in the gun cabinet. i have decided to do a lil customizing (lighter trigger and a bull barell) just so i could have two guns.

different models come with different pulls. i have a 1994 model 116 that has a 3.5 lb pull from the factory. its crisp with no creep, it feels good enough not to warrant a new trigger. there are some models that were made back in the 70's and early 80's(before mr coburn saved the company) that were horrible.

i like a savage, some people say they are crap but those people remember the above rifles i was talking about. they are easy to customize, even easier to have a switch barrel rifle. plenty of after market barrels, stocks and triggers. the bolt has a floating head so there is no need to lap the lugs. an extra lug baffle to protect the shooter from a ruptured case, and ported.

the only thing about a savage is, if you notice, some are harder to open the bolt. this is not a defect but a design issue. the way the bolt is made, it has 2 friction points that cause this. it does not make it any less accurate, etc. but the bolt does not cycle as smooth as a honed winchester or remington. if savage fixed this it would add to the price of the rifle. fred moreno at sharpshooter can fix this for a 100 bucks or so. he also tunes and trues the action.

hopes this helps

this is a very good site with lots of info. a basic membership lets you on the forums, but you cant see the articles and other stuff. these guys know their stuff.

look at the vendor and classifieds forum. northlander has some good deals on barrels and stuff.

here is freds site: http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/

he is a top notch savage gunsmith, and very reasonable. he also designs and builds custom triggers and stocks for the savage.

midway has a lot of savage parts, barrels, etc: http://midwayusa.com/

the a&b barrels are not that bad for hunting but i wouldnt put one on a target or varmint rig.

shilen makes drop in barrels for savage. they are match grade.

There's only so much you can do with the factory trigger without safety issues.

I just ordered one of the Shilen barrels for a Savage last week. I'm working on a stand rifle and wasn't pleased with the barrel I had. Right now they're 10 weeks behind on orders so it will be mid winter before this barrel comes to it's home.

E. Arthur Brown Company also sells some Savage supplies but I haven't used them and can't comment on service.

The SavII aftermarket trigger by Rifle Basix is excellent. I've put a couple in some of my rifles and and well pleased with them. They run around $120 to $140 but are a very good trigger.

Will second the rb 1 and 2 models , have both and am well pleased with them.
The early 3 screw triggers adjust better than the last models without the accutrigger. Some like the accu trigger I am not one of the ones that do.
I just finished a 110 with a er shaw barrel and mounted in a Choat sniper stock, for my nephew . He has a 3 screw , I offered him the rb 1 , but he actually likes the stock savage trigger better.

We Do have it at about 1 lb. but is onlt shot as a single shot and only off a bi-pod or bags and a rest.
