I bought an Accura V2 right before season last year because I wanted to have the nitride treated gun...after mounting a scope the seller and CVA recommended White hots and power belts to be shot...big mistake!!!

I had two FTF with the white hots on two different deer and both times there was a brown fire ring on the bottom of the powder, I clean every 3 to 5 shots and fire a couple primers after cleaning and never had a problem in any of my other 3 smoke poles.

I have never been a fan of terminal performance and pass through of power belts, but since the Accura and PB's are made by the same company I gave em a shot and had a 95 lb doe run 100 yards with minimal blood trail (shot wee bit high and got one lung).

I have already bought BH209 and replaced the stock breach plug with the BH209 one so my question to you guys is what bullet do you recommend me starting with to find anew accurate grouping deer slayer?

I want to try the Barnes T-EZ OR TMZ as I shoot their TTSX Triple Shox in my 30-06 and they are straight up killers...but I don't know much about their MZ bullets.

Sorry for the length but I tried to be as detailed as possible so you guys had plenty of info to work with lol

I had the same thing happen to me with the white hots out of my optima V2 a few years back. I switched to pyrodex and haven't had any problems since. BH209 is very good as well. As far as bullets I've had the best performance out of 300gr power belt Platinums. Yes I know this is a heavy load but I've found it to be devastating to deer. I've dropped many deer with it. I've tried the tc shockwaves in both the 200 and 250gr and have not had that good of results. A lot of people will recommend them because of there accuracy(which is very good) however I've shot too many deer with them that haven't bled a drop. These weren't bad shots either. They were correctly placed shots. Most of the time I would just stumble across the deer. That's when I began looking for different sabots to shoot. I tried the power belt 295gr copper sabots and they worked good but still lacked the blood trails performance I was looking for. That's when I stumbled across the Platinums. So far I've had no complaints whatsoever about them. They're very accurate and devastating with pyrodex.

Oh yeah I shoot the Winchester primers that come in the blue package with this load. Do NOT buy the Winchester primers that come in the red box as they don't burn as hot.

These primers in the red box create bad blowback because they don't burn as hot...IMO they should be discontinued lol...I bought 1000 cci209m for $30 so I'm good in the primer dept for a while....lol thanks for your input buddy

You're welcome man. I totally agree. They're junk...Give us an update on what you decide to shoot.

Install one of these tiny o rings into the breech plugs primer pocket and all blow by will be gone. Replace every 40 shots or so.

With only hitting one lung, that wasn't exactly what I'd call bullet failure, just a shot that got away from you. It can and will happen with a 30-06 or a 300 win mag if you don't do your part. My dad last year dropped a cow elk from 140 yards with a single shot with a 300gr powerbelt aerolite and that was with a double lung hit, no spine. Multiple deer have fallen from them as well.

I'd recommend Blackhorn209 powder,Western Powders Blackhorn209 breech plug, CCI 209 Magnum primers (if you can not find them, the Winchester W209'd will do fine) 300gr Powerbelt Aerolite or many MANY other sabot brands will work fine. I'd highly suggest the 290gr Barnes Tez ( Blue sabot) and 100-110gr Blackhorn209.

I agree i could have had better shot placement just wasn't happy with blood trail as there was no pass through and the bullet had fragmented..

With those of rings do you just put them in the hole the primer seats in? Thanks for your advice bud

yup! Just drop it down into the breech plugs primer pocket and then seat them with a primer. The action will be quite a bit harder to close but do it on an empty gun, fire 3 or 4 primers and it will help shrink down them a bit. After that you just need to use a little more snap when you load up and go shooting. Blow by should be very close to 100% free.

If you ever find that the action is stuck closed, don't worry. CVA switched to a larger screw driver slot on the firing pin bushing and sometimes the primer gets caught up in it. Just pull the trigger all the way, hold it and with your thumb, push the hammer forward to dislodge the spent primer. :tu:

Awesome!!! Thanks so much. I installed the BH breach plug and fired 5 primers through and plan on picking up some Barnes at Bass Pro this weekend when wife and I go to Cades Cove...hopefully get to the range next week and get it ready (I hate waiting until last minute lol)

The Barnes 275gr XPB made for 460S&W are too tough for ML speeds. Ive seen them have expansion problems even in CF loads. Stick with TEZs or any of the Barnes with the larger hollow points for best expansion reliability.

Partial expansion like this is far too common even at smokeless speeds

your probably right about the expansion I was just trying to get a little better deal on the bullets, however I haven't lost a deer yet that I have shot with the .460 s.

After shooting Friday the best combo I found was 100gr BH209 and 290 gr barnes T-EZ...less than 1 inch group at 100 and these are my last 2 shots
