to make a long story short my muzzleloader is busted 45. cal cva kodiak mag,idk why other than to tell you it will not group at 100yds to save anyones life, and this is the 3rd yr its been doing this,im done .....buying a new one ive prolly wasted over 150$ in ammo and bougt a new nikon for it 2 yrs ago.bass pro doesnt have the new one i want, neither does anyone else. im getting a...cva accura 50. cal if i have to have it shipped. can anyone help me out on what load combos there usingif your using this gun, would really help to get me in the ball park and save time..

I had the 50 cal kodiak and it shot great.what kind of bullets and powders have you tried?

Clean the breech plug " primer end" with a 3mm or #32 drill bit, chances are its never been cleaned properly and thats what the problem is.

If you get a new gun, i'd be more than happy to have you send me the kodiak and i'll go through it and see what i can find. CVA will replace it if it truly will not shoot, so either way you are in ok shape.

i bought it new in 04 ive always used pyrodex or 777 150 gr powder. 195 or 225 gr powerbelts until it started showing problems then i backed off to 100 gr of powder.....it always drove tacks 1 in groups.breech plug is clean as a whistle i always made sure of that.even e-mailed cva. 3-4 yrs ago i ran about 50 shots i changed scopes, after shooting and cleaning several times it got better, thought i might have been crushing the powder rechecked everything cleaned and started again finally @75 yds 100gr powder and same bullets i can hit a paper plate so i go with it...nxt year rerun, same scope only half as many shots but it would never pattern group got smaller but was prolly still 6-8 in. i missed a doe and a good 140" buck last year at 75 yds.so this year i started shooting early,i even tried t/c shockwaves same mess started out decent eneded up burning whole box of powder and bullets with 3-4 cleaning in between all these shots.....i plan on emailing cva again

I never got a good group with 195 gr or 223 gr powerbelt bullet. Buy some hornady sst 200gr. It saved me alot of headache.

you still using those old pellets or have bought new ones each year?

You've replaced the scope so im wondering if its your scope mount/rings giving you all the grief.

I have never had any luck getting anything less than 250 gr to group on any ml especially one that i was shooting 150 gr charge

i usually buy 2 boxes of new powder each year, ive checked the mounts and rings for cracks or stress or loose screws and made sure everything was tight but it is a possibility.....

normally it can be cheap rings giving you head aches. Either way though, my offer on checking your rifle out and going through it, is still available at any time.

i appreciate it, idk what im going to do with it at this time but wasting more $$ on it right now is not a option so for now its going back in the gun cabinet

My brother in law has as CVA Accura. He is shooting 150 gr of 777 with 250 gr shockwaves, and it shoots very good. This is the same load that I am shooting out of my Encore.

I would replace the rings and mounts on your gun and clean it with the solvent that is supposed to clean the plastic residue from sabots and start over. It doesn't make sense that a "shooter" all of the sudden goes crazy without some special cause. It has got to either be something with the mounts or some type of residue somewhere from cleaning. Just my $0.02 worth.

Muzzleloader hunting is sometimes a love/hate relationship as some of them can be very picky on what they want to shoot but still my favorite weapon to pack in the woods. There is just something about the smoke rolling and the smell of blackpowder on a cold November morning. That is why I still shoot blackpowder and have yet to go to smokeless.
