I love years with no acorns and my area had zero. the deer have to come out into my open areas to feed on clover, honeysuckle and other browse so I hunted most the season in places I could cover a lot of ground. I saw around 40 different bucks 15 of which were 2.5 or older. I always see several decent bucks in the course of a season but this one may top them all. one of the best seasons I can remember in terms of seeing 2.5 year old decent 8's. I didn't see any monsters this year but it wasn't for the lack of trying. I did kill 2 nice 8's, 1 very early in the season and 1 the last weekend while passing a bunch during the middle hoping for a great big one.

my son went for the first time this year and killed 4.5 yo 6pt that didn't have any G1's. I took him to a spot where I was getting several spikes and 4pts on cam daily just knowing it would be the best spot and wouldn't you know it, we sat there without seeing a deer on the juvy opener. went back the next day thinking no way they could stay away 2 days in a row after them being around nearly everyday the week before but sunday morning we saw nothing again. that evening was looking to be the same but with only 15 minutes of shooting light left we saw 2 does. he was about to shoot one when I noticed antlers in the background and it was a buck I only had 2 pics of, the 4.5 6pt with no brows. my boy made a perfect shot and I have never been more proud.

I got a yote on the same day I killed my 2nd 8pt also

Congrats on your season. I have a couple of crates filled with racks like that and some day will figure out what to do with them. For the last few years I've done skull mounts on all my decent sized bucks. I don't know if you've tried doing it but it's not hard at all and really doesn't take much time. This way you still have a wall "mountable" head without the expense of full mounts and if you ever decide to use the antlers for something else just cut them off.

thanks mike, I just drill a small hole through the skull and screw them to the wall in my basement. put those on the wall just after that pic was taken.

Good deal! I saw that house u built. Good spot I bet you can see a lot!
heck yeah! should have built that 20 years. I can see 400yds up the hill to the front, 250yds up the hollow to my left and 600+ across the creek up on the hill behind me. 2 things come in handy when hunting there, a good swivel chair and my 338 for those long shots.
