I can always tell what the hard mast crop is going to be each year when the butternut hickory nuts start falling in my driveway - usually the first two weeks in August. In the last three days this year squirrels are hitting them hard and they are already littering the driveway with nuts nibbled on by the squirrels and many already completely eaten. They always fall before the big shagbark hickory nuts fall in late August. But some of the shagbarks have also already started to fall. Hope the acorn crop does the same! Sounds like I am driving over popcorn when I back out f the driveway.

Need to check the sights on the 22s and air rifle!

I have always thought my squirrel hunting with a 22 made me a better shot, have bought a 22 pellet rifle, heavy arse trigger but getting trigger time in without bothering the neighbors. it should be against the law to put a 5.5lbs trigger on anything lol and I am 62+ ;)

How loud is that pellet rifle? Boy across the road got one a few years ago to squirrel hunt around their house. It sounds just like a 22. First few times I heard it, I would have bet money he was using his 22.

I'm 54 and still love the squirrel hunt as much as ever. I can't wait until my suppressor gets out of jail to try this season. However, it looks like at least October before it gets released. I should have never filed for the trust and I could already be shooting.

I bought the Ruger and it's nowhere near as loud as a 22, been shooting in the yards and the birds that are around don't pay any attention to it, scope aint worth much but I knew that before I got it.
