Yesterday evening I tagged out for the first time in a long time. I was hunting in a stand that has consistently produced throughout the years and was settling in for prime time. A group of does funneled into the field, shortly followed by a nine point. The buck had a true ten point frame on one side, and a 8 point frame on the other. I decided I was going to shoot thinking the buck was in the 120's and the gun went click. I was stunned and realized that I had not pumped one into the chamber, once I did the lead doe had me pegged. She stepped in front of the buck and stayed there stomping and was about to bust me when she cleared the buck. I let him have it at 220 yards. Once I approached the buck, I had my George Costanza moment, shrinkage. The buck was not as big as I originally thought, but I am happy with the kill. I accomplished a feat that I set out to start the season, self-filming a hunt. The deer had a rough last few weeks as one of his testicles was missing and his whole sack was missing except for the remaining testicle. I can't help but wonder what hurt the buck worse, getting shot or a testicular injury?
