Son and I got a chance to hunt Saturday for a couple hours.
A friend of his came with us and we killed 3 of these.
It is the first for all three of us.

General concensus is female hooded merganser.

I can't get the picture to flip for some reason but anyway, pretty cool duck.
3 came in and we all 3 shot at a different duck and all 3 died.
That is rare for us. LOL

cool duck, the duck in the picture looks to be alive! lol how did he get it to stand straight up, am I missing something? lol

LOL that was the one I killed and it has been laying on the floor of the blind for a couple hours.
She was kinda stiff. ;)

I need to find my way into a blind this year. Never been but interested!

Bad juju to kill one around here. I won't shoot them. Lol

I've killed a few on snap shots, but if we see them coming, we pass them up too. The drakes are pretty, but they're no duck. Just target practice.

Be careful.
The ONLY reason I ever went was because my son wanted to.
Now I am hooked.

I haven't been fortunate, as of yet, to be on what they call a GOOD hunt / shoot.
I love it though.
If we ever get enough ducks to warrent a drive from way over there you are more than welcome to go with us. :)

I actually went on one hunt with my step sons and their dad couple years ago. I didn't carry a gun, just wanted to see what it was about. If my memory serves me correctly, I think they called in 3 or 4 greenheads in one bunch and missed. called in 4 geese and missed. lol it was awesome watching the birds work though even though it only happened twice. That is a kind gesture and one I would gladly take you up on one day if you think it might be worth the drive. drive isn't too bad though :super:
