It's been a great week. I killed my biggest deer on Friday and seen tons of deer. I got to see a 4 pt breed a doe yesterday morning which is a first for me.

This morning I was dead set on where I was going up until the last minute. Something told me not to go there and go to another spot. I felt like it was the Lord pulling on me to go somewhere else so I did. The morning started slow and hard to hear with the wet leaves. I had a buck chase a doe around the hill above me but in the thick stuff and couldn't tell how big. I was watching 3 does in front of me and as they disappeared, I looked over my right shoulder above me and saw tall, white horns. I never hesitated that it was a shooter as I saw it was a 3.5+ year old and just knew it was the big slick 8 pointer that I had pics of. I stood up and wheeled around waiting for him to hit the only good opening that I had to shoot through. He got through it before I could stop him or shoot. I then seen another basketball size opening, swung to it about the time he got there, the crosshairs hit his shoulder, and the gun went off. He bolted, and I thought I heard him crash. My heart was racing and a million thoughts went through my mind on what just happened as it happened so fast. The shot was probably about 80 yards off handed. I was doubting some but felt pretty confident in the shot. I got down and walked up to the first trail in the flat where he was at and no blood after walking around it about 30 yards. I wasn't sure exactly which trail he was on so walked a few yards up the hill to check the other trail and stepped on him. To my surprise, he wasn't the big 8 or any of the other deer I had pics of. I was disappointed some in the ground shrinkage, but I'm still tickled and happy. He looks just like the other deer with tall, white, horns but just a smaller version.

It's on right now and bucks are on the move. Now, I've got the next 4 days to try to put my son on his 2nd buck of the year. Thank the good Lord for another awesome day in the woods!

On a side note, the 8 that I thought I shot is only a 3yo and will be a stud next year if he makes it. My cousin said you're better off shooting this deer as a 3 yo and hoping the other one makes it til next year. I like his thinking. :)
