Anybody loaded any 75gr amax in a 223? Just kinda curious. I have a 20 inch bartlein 8 twist 223 and was thinking of trying them in it. I'm shooting the 77 grain custom competition to about 3/8 and would hope for the same out of the amax. Any prefered powders?

Won't work. To long won't fit in magazine
I know this from experience. When you set OAL the bullet is to long.
For a bolt gun they might work. For a Ar they are to long
Done tried it
Now if you cut off the red plastic tip they will work
Hope this helps
This is from my personal experience

I guess I should have specified that my rifle is a rem 700 and I have an accurate mag dBm so I can stretch my col quite a bit. I can't remember how long I can go but it is way over sammi max.

I have a couple recipes for the 75amax used in a rem 700 LTR.

Very accurate

What col are you running? Any favorite powder? I am using cfe223 for the 77gr ncc but also have rl15 and varget,

These are two loads that has worked well for me. May or may not be good for your setup.

Used Lake City Brass on the AMAX loads and Lake City Match brass on the Berger loads

21.2 H322 75amax 2.305" 2682fps avg
24.4 Varget 75amax 2.310" 2835fps avg

When looking at the notes, I also have some good results from the 80gr amax also

Another accurate round was the 75gr Berger VLD over 24.6 Varget seated 2.290" 2902 fps

I appreciate it. I will be using Winchester brass and have plenty of varget. I'm considering going Thursday and seeing if they have any 75 amax at sportsmans just to play with and see how they do. How far off the lands were you?

I dont have notes showing what the throat of that rifle was. Production rifles will vary, as the same with seating depths per rifle. Most like a thousandths off. I know with shorter/lighter bullets (40gr fir example) in my LTR... I cant get that close to the lands.

If you think it would help you, I wouldnt mind to get the measurement for you.

Oh one other thing.... take the VLD load I posted for example...... That was the most accurate seating depth I got after I found the charge the gun liked. I had WAY more room to extend the COL but apparently that bullet liked a little of a jump

I was just wondering if the amax likes jump or jam really or if there is a general sweet spot off the lands. My rifle has a fairly short throat so jamming isn't much of a problem if that's what they like.
