Browning A Bolt 7mm mag. Im looking into getting on and don't know alot about them. Those of you who have one, what load do you shoot through it. I know they will reach out there, but about how far? Recoil? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have been shooting a 7mm Rem. Mag for about 25 yrs now, until I got into reloading I used the Remington core loc's in 175gr., the 150gr. were hard to come by in the area I live.

Depending on what you are looking to harvest with this weapon will depend on what brand and bullet design/weight you may want to use.

Recoil - it will let you know it's there. Distance - will depend on you and the terrain you hunt in.

My Ruger M77 really likes the Nosler Ballistic tips (154 gr) I am not sure they even make that bullet anymore, I thing in the 150gr. now.

More info. about the use and terrain would help narrow down the estimated answers.

i will be using it for whitetail only...the spot where i would use it would be a river bottom, no trees, just big open feilds...can see bout 3/4 to 1 mile. i have a 30-06 that i use in hatchie bottom which is all timber, i just want that extra distance for the feilds

You don't want a 7mm.............you want a .50 BMG. LOL

Curious, why the 7mm?? I am sure someone else on here will have a different/better caliber for those distances.

lol i hear ya....i wouldnt be able to afford to sight in a 50

mainly cause a guy wants to trade me that.....thought it wouldnt be no bad thing to have for down there, and it would be a good deal for both of us

Ok, that is a good enough reason by me.

Now, build yourself a very tall shooting tower in the middle of the field, then you will only have to shot half the distance in any direction.................LOL

With the right bullet selection and load combo, you should be able to reach out there quit aways effectively.

now i know we have different shooting capabilities, but how far is too far for you to shoot a deer with your set up

I hunt 95% of the time, mountain hunting and thick cover areas, 150 yd shots are few and far between for me, I have been out to a few ranges and shot out to 250 with no problems. With the right optics, bullet combo and a sold rest................I would dare say 500-600 yds no problem, after that I am thinking you are loosing a lot of energy.

Shot this standing Elk at over 400 yds with my stainless stalker 7 mag loaded with hand-loaded 150 gr Nos. BT. Dropped in his tracks. The BT was my most accurate bullet, and at that range it had time to slow down to become very deadly without blowing to pieces with the high velocity of the 7mm mag. I carried Nos. Partitions for my close in work, and would recommend using a better bullet for close in work for deer also. If your target is way out there u have time to put whatever pill u want in the chamber.

I also shot dynamite at 750 yds with that rifle, although it took a box of BT's to get her dialed in on it.

Great killing,fast,flat shooting round...

PS:After my rifle got stolen, I replaced her with a Browning A-bolt 270 WSM that I re-load for, and use now, so I don't have up to date info as far as newer offerings
I also flat laid out out a big Cougar with the 175 gr Corelock, but wouldn't recommend it it u like meat :)
