Took a trip to the gun range today to sight in my new Ruger American 6.5 creedmoor and test out a few different loads. I tested the Winchester xp, Barnes long range LRX, and the hornady American whitetail. To say this gun is a shooter is an understatement. The hornady American whitetail 129gr interlocks shot the best and left me in awe. After taking a few shots to sight in I let the gun cool and then shot a 5 shot group at 100yrds. (pictured below) I was in shock when I went to get the target. All five shots were in one hole the size of a penny. I knew this gun was going to be a shooter but I didn't expect it to shoot quite this well. Beat it all, the Hornady American whitetails were the cheapest box of the three coming in at $22. Not bad at all! Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked about this setup.

WOW,this is great shooting.I had used Federal 140 grain non typical in my x-bolt 6.5 ,shot three shot group at 100 yards was 1and 1/4 wide and 1/2 up and down.I could cover two shots with a penny.Maybe I need to look at American Whitetail.

That's awesome. I to am very impressed with my 6.5 predator. Believe I'm gonna try the whitetail round this weekend based off your results. Mine likes the Winchester XP. Gotta love when the cheap rounds work well. I got the Winchester's for $17 & change on grabagun.
Great shooting!

Mine did pretty well with the XP's too but the whitetail performed the best for me.

Glad you posted this. Seen the ammo you used on sale for $19 a box. Might just buy 5 boxes instead of brass and bullets.

Ruger American seem to shoot well with factory ammo, if you try a few. That 6.5 is really performing !

I've been really impressed with it. I'm gonna go back and grab a few more boxes too.

Thank you and I would definitely recommend at least trying it. It seems like every gun is a little different in what it likes but for $20 bucks it's hard not to give it a try.

Great shooting. I bought several different boxes of ammo when I got my creed just for the brass. Turned out the Hornady whitetail did the same as yours so I just stocked up on them [emoji1] . The anax shoot the same as well. The worse shooting load I shot was the 129 sst and it was still just under an inch

I shot the Hornady whitetail out of my 308 and it exploded in 3 different deer. I won't shoot it. I hope you don't have the same result I did If you eat the meat.
It did shoot very well but mine likes the Winchester max bonded just as well

Mostly depends on the velocity and bullet design. Really hard to compare .308 ammo to 6.5.
What style of Hornady bullet was your .308 loaded with? What was the published velocity? What was the approximate range when you hit the deer?

I had good luck with interlock bullets on deer sized critters. But I also don't try for max velocity as most of my shots don't exceed 50 yards or so.

Factory Hornady American Whitetail 150 grain.
Deer #1 = 50yds
Deer #2 = 250yds
Deer #3 = 200yds
I would love to say they were bad shots and shoulder shots but the simply weren't
I thought that's what they were talking about shooting out of the 6.5 creedmore?
