Anybody shoot one? I haven't had a pistol in a couple of years now, Looking to buy a wheel gun , Thinking hard about a 38 with a 4 inch barrel. What do you guys think. Looking hard at some of the taurus line. Thanks Smokin

I shoot them all the time... Nothing wrong with them at all and they will never jam.... or fail to load... or stove pipe.... You get my drift.... :)

I would highly recommend getting a used K frame smith... something with a pinned barrel. If it is in sei good shape you can keep it for years and always get your money out of it.

Not saying anything bad about the taurus line but the S&W's will retain their value btter.

I carry a SW scandium 357/38 snubby.
love it. 38's for plinking, and practice. 357 for knockdown.
I would get the 357 and shoot 38's for versatility.

That 642 fits in a jeans front pocket and since it's hammerless it draws real nice like. Mine shoots +P in about a 3" group at 50 feet and I'm really satisfied with that

If I were looking for a 4 inch gun, I would go ahead and get a 357 Mag instead of a 38. You can still shoot 38s in them for practice or lower recoil self defense, but you then have the ability to shoot 357 Mags if you want/need to. I would look for a used S&W model 19,66,65,586, or 686. The S&W will hold its resale better than a Taurus, and will probably have a smoother action.

642 is a good gun but not fun to practice with. get laser grip with it right off the bat. carrys very well.article by 7mm is real good on it - truthful.

It's a lot more fun to shoot than my 342 titanium version. :)

If you want something to carry on your hip in the woods but don't want a full size revolver, they make the model 60 stainless J-frame in 3" and 5" with nice adjustable sights. It's only 5 rounds but a nice little sidearm with .357 power that's easier to tote around than a model 66 or a Blackhawk but still has good accuracy. Also Ruger makes an SP101 with 3 1/8" barrel in .357. They're a nice step between the lightweight snubbies and the big revolvers.
