Today was Day Two of the (almost) annual Stretch & Ruger Hunt for Big Blue(s). Sadly we did not outdo the 50 lb. beast that Stretch drilled Friday evening . However there was no shortage of bruiser blues in the 10 - 20 lb. class... especially fun on 8 lb. spinning tackle.

Ruger kept his notepad handy yesterday and today. You would have thought he was keeping minutes at a White House Cabinet Meeting. I laughed at him, but it was actually kind of cool. Every fish in the boat got weighed and recorded. Today's total was 37 catfish that weighed 305 lbs. And we spent 3 or 4 hours away from the sweet spot, fishing dead water looking for The Big Bite (that never came). Yesterday evening's total was 116 lbs., boosted by the 50 lb. behemoth, for a total of 421 lbs. of catfish in the boat.

I finally made 'em quit when Ruger reeled in today's big fish (21 lbs.). I think they were suitably sunburnt, wore down and wore out. I know I was...

Here's a selection of today's fish... which means life is good and gettin' better everyday.

WOW that's a ton of fish! I've never did catfish on the lake other than limb lines. How do you catch 'em like that with rod and reel?

You don't... you see Simms is pretty much the Chuck Norris of the catfishing world - those big cats know to start jumping in the boat as soon as they smell the chicken...

All kidding aside looks like another great weekend out there guys NICE fish!!!

I call BS! Ruger had a shirt with sleeves on it!

He usually tries to "dress up" when he fishes with me. I asked him to wear a shirt with a collar next time... and after that we might even graduate to a tie!

Of course we still have LOTS of work to do in trying to tone down the release of gaseous body byproducts. I have learned that no matter where we're fishing, I must keep my end of the boat upwind.

AACH,
I don't fish that much and I don't have a boat.
I will say, however, that if / when I get a boat I WILL have those types of life preservers.
There is NOTHING like wearing one all day and having to be reminded to take it off because it is so comfortable you forget you have it on.
WELL worth the money I think.

That also says alot about rsimms as well, he is always thinking of his clients plus at any given time you can see boats around you with people in them not wearing the required life preservers.
If you don't want to wear yours when you fish with him, you fish from the bank. :D
