Anybody like this round for deer? There was specific make and model rifle I wanted a few years back, but I could only find it in 300 win mag, so I bought it. I like the gun, but am concerned that it may be too much for deer. I've only killed 4 deer with it but it seems to ruin a lot of meat. Any load or round that can reduce the loss?

Shoot them in the heart/lung & no ruined meat.i use 150g corelocks in mine most of the time

I had a heart shot on a doe at 50 yards the other day. broad side shot through the heart, but it blew off the hole brisket. Never seen anything like it.

I use 150gr winchester powerpoints. I love the gun. It will damage some meat but it hasnt shown to be exsessive on damage.

180 grain barns bullets. no such thing as to much gun unless you are shooting squirrels or cant handle the recoil. if i happen to gut shoot a deer, i would want it to be with my 300 winmag.

It aint too much recoil when you put a bad shot on one. Ive had paunch shots, butt shots, neck, etc, and never had one that got away from the 300.

I would rather ruin a little meat than run the risk of loosing the whole deer. Shoot for the vitals and enjoy.

I shoot Winchester Powermax in mine and love them. Heat lung shot and they go down. No need to ruin any shoulder meat.

I say if you like it, use it. I've never used it but, love the .308 and .30-06. I've got a friend thats got one and loves it.

Holstonangler sounds like it may be to much recoil for you if your hitting them in all those places. A big gun is never a substitute for marksmanship.

booth, I've filled my tags several times over. You should know as well as i do that shots from a bench do not equal shots from the field, deer move, targets don't. If you don't think so, you need more time afield to find out. BTW.. i have my name on several marksmanship trophies, I can shoot a gun. Find someone else with less experience on the topic to call out next time.
