I fished with Randy at Sardis Lake for years. He finally caught him a 3 pound crappie.

When I was a teenager, I caught one that weighed 3.5#. We weighed it on a meat scale that had been certified . My plan was to have it mounted, but being a kid, I needed to save $ to pay for the taxidermy bill. So my brother put it in his freezer, properly wrapped, or so we thought.

The lady that kept his kids would also periodically cook dinner for my brother's family. Well, one day he came home to a fresh fried fish dinner. He said it was great but had to call me to tell me the bad news.

That's a great trophy fish! Closest I ever came to a 3 pounder was 2 lbs 10 oz and she was already layered out. Now for eating I would rather eat 10" crappie.

That's a fine specimen! I'm thrilled when I catch one half that big. I've caught a few in my life over 2 lbs. but doubt I'll ever catch a 3 lb'er in my neck of the woods.

Many moons ago, I caught a really big Crappie in a creek near my house, I took it home and put it in my pond. A year or two later I caught it and it was just a few ounces shy of the state record at that time. I put it in a bucket for a little while contemplating on having it mounted. I ended up throwing it back thinking the next year I'd have the new state record. That was the last time I ever saw that fish!

I caught one last year as big as my 5 gallon bucket. Never had anything to weigh it. I took a pic of it laying up against the 5 gallon bucket. And released it couple hours later. Only crappie in caught that night.

Yes . 10 to 12" are perfect for eating
