Most on here are rifle junkies but I'm a shotgun junkie. Specifically, I love the 28 gauge. I had a major knee surgery a few weeks ago so I've been doing some reloading.
Deer hunting is getting boring so I decided this year, my goal is to kill a deer with my 28 gauge. I have slugs for Tennessee, but I've been trying to get a good buckshot recipe for the 28gauge to use North Carolina. I started out with TSS (tungsten super shot). I tried 2's, 1''s, BB's and T's. Instead of fold crimping, I also went with a roll crimp due to better ballistics after reading up on it. I shot 4 load/choke combinations today and this was the end result. 30 yds shot, 21 pellets in the load. Circle is 3" for reference. Choke was a comp-n-choke light modified in a Beretta A400 28 gauge. Can't wait to try this load this fall on a deer 40yds or less!!!!

pellet size for your final load? Your buffer, you using flour? Powder?

Take a piece of 3/8 plywood out 40 yards and check the penetration. That was what my California shotgun buddy used to do. He was not a fan of steel and in fact you could hear the cussing from about half mile away. I would get this really in depth explanation of why steel sucked all the way to the range and back.

Pellet size is T's. No buffer. 21 pellets. 25 grains of lil' gun and a few other specialty components. 1257 fps and 11093 psi.

I'm not worried about penetration with TSS. It's nothing like steel ballistically or metallic makeup. I got complete pass thru on resident Canada geese at 35 yds using 9 1/2 TSS. If you haven't tried it, check it out. It has a cult like following amongst turkey hunters but this stuff is hell on any critter. Cost is the only drawback.

I never heard of TSS but you are getting nice velocity. I will try to catch up but I do not load for my 12 gauge.

Note:
I was introduced to goose and duck hunting by this California buddy of mine. He rolled his own and bought powder by the keg and pellets by the ton. He had a LOT of trophy's and some of the nicest shotguns I have ever seen. Shooting a hundred was not a big deal to him at all. He tried to teach me. I was so proud the day I got two clays in a row. It wasn't something I was good at.

I never loaded shotgun but would sit and watch him and assist by keeping my mouth shut. He used flour as a buffer (Pillsbury Gold medal white, he was even picky about that) and he was detailed beyond belief. He had two blown up barrels mounted, like a deer head, on the wall and he answered a lot of questions by just pointing at one or the other of them.

Yeah, you gotta be careful!! I find a great deal of enjoyment in reloading. I guess it's the same with the guys that reload for this rifles. Reloading rifle scares me and I've never tried it but then again, I'm just not that into rifles either. There's just something about doing everything from start to finish and having success at the end product! I enjoy hunting but since I started reloading and using shells I reloaded, its added to the overall satisfaction of the hunt!!

Curious as to where you got your slugs. My brother has an Ivor Johnson single shot 28 gauge that my dad left him. It has been in the family for over 50 years.

If I remember correctly, I think I ordered them from midway. They're brenneke.
