Got a buddy looking for a .22-250 and he asked my opinion. Never owned one so I started looking and ran across a Savage-Stevens (see link). He doesn't want to spend much for what he intends to do with it so my question is this...how are these guns? Also, it's got me wondering if it's a better round than the .223. By that I mean for coyotes and possibly a deer from time to time. I compared the ballistics using the same bullet in a chart I've got and it's faster and flatter with less drop. I always had it in my mind that a .223 was better but now thinking I'm wrong. Depending on your responses I may have to change my looking for a .223 to a 22-250 too.

Thanks!

If he wants this for a calling rifle primarily, I would go for the 223. If he plans to use it for a 50/50 calling and deer rifle, I would say the 22-250. If he already has a deer rifle, get the 223.
I have the 204 and it is awesome to shoot, but you cant get it in the Stevens.

I had a Tikka in 22-250 I sold to a guy here, you know those guns you should have never gotten rid of ? That was one,I thought I needed a Winchester Coyote in .223 and while it's a tack driver,I wish it was a 22-250.

I have a howa 22-250 I love it! Its a true tack driver! I killed every thing from ground hogs to deer with it! I hand load all my shells! I use a 55 grain hornady vmax with imr 4350 powder! Works for me!

I bought the Stevens 22-250 last year and personally think it is one of the sweetest shooting rifles I have ever shot. My nephew shot a 6pt on juvenile with it this year. It is a nail driver. I demolished a crow at 196 yards with it. Great investment and fun to shoot.
