Yesterday evening i went out during a steady rain and abnormal wind to try exploiting the barometer drop to 29" HG and rain gap that was forecast for sunset. I bumped a lone bedded doe thats always getting bumped because shes just determined to stay living 10ft off the only trail in. I stalked around a few times due to wind shifts and finally headed back home across an open pasture to stay down wind of another doe group im watching.
It was still technically legal light but my scope was too foggy for a 400yd shot, and i was really nervous that what i just saw move might be a calf. It was a buck who stepped out way down wind of me on a highground toward what i was pretty sure was a small bush after a while for lack of movement. I was in the middle of open pasture upwind in a black rain suit, he's looking right at me and figured the buck would bolt but he just stayed still 10 minutes. I didnt want him to pattern me or run him off but i needed him to go so i could leave.. i blew an MFK diaphragm coyote howl and he spun around, the bush became a fawn doe and 3 more larger does came out of a depression i couldnt see just a little bit away, revealing themselves, their feeding preference under those conditions, and their exit trail for next time. And hopefully they all think i was just a farmer or hiker and the coyote is their real issue.
Just as i was about to get to my own backyard fence, a pair of eyeballs were looking right into my headlamp from 50 feet before bolting. It was a deer smelling my heavily used trail, id never seen one there before. My muck boots were kinda dusty so i hosed them down in acorn cover scent that musta drawn it in.
So anyways, i think the second rut will be coming in pretty soon. 7 deer in one cruise is the most i ever saw. If youve got any white oak acorns in your yard rake them up and throw them under a white oak near your stand because i think the woods is picked clean. This was cumberland county.

In my area (Lincoln) we have had a long trickle rut it seems. Last weekend I seen 3 bucks chasing 1 doe- I expect it to amp up a bit more this weekend...
I sat this morning and had 3 different bucks following does. First was a spike following a lone doe. Then multiple foes showed up and a six point came in (I shot him). Then had a 4 point come in and get with the does and chase them around. Was a great morning. I also have scrapes everywhere that were not there in early season.

What is everybody seeing? Everywhere I hunt deer are mostly nocturnal and sightings are down. Pretty typical late season pattern.

Went once this past weekend, didn't see a deer and only one buck and a few does on my camera. It's over in my part of the woods [emoji17]
