1962 Styer Mannlicher Schoenauer

AG,Styer Daimler Puch Mannlicher Schoenauer Model MC Kal 243..the scope is a 4-10 Nickel Warburg Supra with German #4 reticle in the Front Focal plane and is very clear and bright,I think was mounted when scope was new and may have been mounted by styer.

these pics are a little dark and I will get better when we get some sunlight,

original quick detach scope mounts,

all steel rotary 5 round magazine,holds 5 plus 1 and has a button on the top of action when pushed will throw all 5 rounds out the top.

Very cool rifle. I came close to buying the same gun a few years ago, but I didn't like the way the scope mounted. I like the looks of that mount a lot better. The one I was looking at was a 6.5x54 Mannlicher Shoenaur.

I wish I had the cash to just tuck it back somewhere,,I just put 10 rounds through it and the scope,well you can tell it is old,but still after I got it on paper at 100 yards the last three rounds of 100 gr Fed factory ammo went into a little cluster less than 3/4 inch,,

I am gonna say to build a rifle like it today would cost close to 4,000 $$

since I can`t buy it I would like to see him get what it`s worth and I am not sure how to go about it,should the fact it has no import stamp effect the price,,or legality?

I think I am gonna put it on GB with a sick reserve and try to get an idea what it is actually worth,,I cant find where one sold recently to get an idea from

Anyone who has handled a classic M-S rifle understands the appeal of this fine firearm. Its bolt action was the simply the smoothest ever made. It is the only bolt action that I know of that will close and lock itself if the muzzle of an empty rifle with a fully open bolt is swung down to point at the ground while the trigger is held back. This is partly because of the outstanding machine work put into these rifles, and partly because the Schoenauer spool magazine does not drag against the bolt as does the follower in the box magazine of a Mauser style rifle.

The typical M-S trigger mechanism, usually a double set type, was absolutely awesome. Just pulling the release trigger normally can fire the rifle, but the pull weight is a creepy 5+ pounds. However, when the set trigger is first pulled to "set" the release trigger, the release trigger then breaks with a perfect 3 ounce let-off (as adjusted by the factory). The set trigger can be adjusted for a pull so light that the weight of the trigger itself fires the rifle if the muzzle is elevated--which clearly should be avoided!

Shooter's Bible, and it shows the retail price for a M-S Carbine as $340. For comparison, the same issue shows the price of a Winchester Model 94 as $99.95, the price of a Winchester Model 70 Standard as $169.95, and the price of a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe as $339.50.

Mannlicher Schoenauer MCA(monte carlo american)made for the US market. They are classic rifles that are works of art regarding the action and magazine. Personally I like the euro models better as they pimped it up a bit with the MCA. I would guess it is worth between $1800-2200. I think there is a shop in Austria run by one of the remaining Steyr employees still building these as basically one-off rifles. And they cost around 10k or more as I recall. People over at 24hr campfire or accurate reloading will know all about it and have a ballpark value. The classic round in the MS is the 6.5x54MS as carried by lots of well heeled gentleman hunters and professional hunters in the early years of the 20th century in gamefields worldwide. Names like Selby, Hemmingway, Ruark, Bell and others I can't recall right now were big fans.

the rifle is the 1956 version MC made in 62,,the MCA started in 63 and were drilled and tapped for a front scope base on the reciever.

I am confidant it is the MS MC {Monte Carlo} made from 56-62

Yeah I am sure you are correct- they look the same at a distance. At any rate they are well made nice rifles the likes of which won't be seen again in a factory rifle.
