You know you got it bad when you go out and shoot 100 rounds in this weather.

We've shot some matches before with temps in the teens. You're getting good practice for sure, as long as you don't lose your trigger finger to frostbite that is! 😖

Now if I can just get them on that center dot....:p

Groups are cool but unless I'm evaluating a new lot of ammo I don't shoot them. How does the rifle score, that's what matter if you're going to use it in a match.

A good friend has a 40x that will shoot unbelievable groups, better than his custom rifles. When he shoots a card it comes in 8-10pts behind his customs and a lot of times won't score as high as my tikka.

A guy in the group I shoot matches with only shoots groups with his cz. He has a bunch of .1's and quite a few .0's. He's never won a match.

In your opinion, is the best match practice shooting cards? That's kind of what I am thinking.

Absolutely

Also, don't shoot only on good days. Be sure you're shooting in some wind. One of my friends quit shooting in matches because he only shot on great days and when match day came and it was blowing 10-15mph he got killed.

Thanks Remi, appreciate your help. I have been shooting pistol matches for years, but this is a different animal for sure. Really enjoying it so far.

I started with pistol matches too. They quit doing them last year, I think we only shot 1 match. I miss shooting in them.

Biggest issue I have with shooting cards in practice is not getting frustrated with the fliers I get with practice ammo. I shoot a LOT and I just cant use all SK and Lapua. I been using a lot of TAC-22 and Federal automatch. Some days they shoot really good, some days not so much. :)

So, here's what I do and it may be wrong but it works for me.

When I get a new lot of practice ammo I'll shoot 3-4 cards and get an idea of an average. I had some Tac22 that would run 215-225 on our usbr cards. If I wan in that range then I knew my mechanics were good. Under than consistently and I had a problem, over 225 and the law of averages kicked in and it is what it is. My new Tac is 210ish on average.

It is frustrating because Tac includes 5-10 free flyers on every box.

I try to buy practice ammo by the 500-1500 rounds so I'll not have a surprises.

My neighbor only shoots Sk or lapua even when he practices. I'd have to sell my body at the local club for extra funds if I did that.

Thanks, that is very helpful. I need to get some usbr targets, the ones I have now are ibs.

One club I shoot with now is IBS and the other is ABRA. I don't think many places use the USBR. Our local group has for a few years but I think they're switching as well.

It's really strange how switching from one to another you have to relearn your wind holds.

My buddy is out shooting now. He called to see if I wanted to come out and shoot, but after he told me it was so cold that he was shooting with gloves on, I decided to wait, maybe till April. 😁
