channel 5 is predicting a low of -13 which is the coldest temp I have ever heard of here. what effect do you think it will have on these worn down post rut deer, especially since our ground is covered in hard ice.

I think it could have a significant effect on bucks. Just another reason for a shorter gun season and a 2 buck limit starting this year. More arrows, less bullets. Let's make it happen!

Makes me glad I still have 3 acres of standing corn on my farm! They're gonna need something in their guts when you combine frigid temps and freezing rain. That's what always caused us the greatest concern with cattle. Dry they can handle any cold Tennessee winter's might throw at them, but when you get freezing rain it is tough. Doubt it will kill any though. At least with cattle the only ones we ever lost during this kind of weather was if we had a new calf - say less than a week old.

I also doubt it will do much harm. I'm sure there's some old/injured deer out there that will not be able to handle it, but for the most part deer are tough and it won't have much effect on their health.. Hopefully it'll make there antlers freeze off though :D

This year......I doubt it will have much effect. Food has been abundant. They are not impeded by deep snow and although we have ice, there are still many food sources available . Now, if this weather pattern held for a couple of weeks it might be different, but we are only going to see this for a few days. The deer might be a little cold, but they aren't going to starve or freeze to death.

I hope it makes a few extra bucks shed early, I want to find some antlers when the snow ice melts

This.... Deer didn't have problems eating this year and the two I killed had more fat on them than any deer I remember.

This will have basically no effect. This is such a short term event in the scheme of things it will have no lasting negative effect. Very different circumstances from up north.

Well, Redblood, I'd say they got pretty cold.....wouldn't you? :P Hee Hee

No effect. I have saw a ton of deer after the cold snap. Been all through thick cover rabbit hunting in the ice. The deer are fine. The rabbits did have a problem once the 9 beagles got on em.lol
