I grew up in Missouri. One fine spring day a buddy and I had been tromping the woods for morels. It was quite hit & miss, so we gave up to head back to town to check on a rental property he had. As we pulled into the driveway we both saw a huge yellow morel growing in the back yard. We couldn't get out of the truck fast enough, and raced each other to the treasure, both laying our hands on it at the same time. Turned out not to be an issue...

We had something similar happen several years ago. Our church owns the house next door and one of the church members who does the lawn care called me one spring and said that I needed to stop by and check out the back yard behind the old house...There was 13 really nice white morels in the wide open back yard....that was many years ago and its never happened since...its interesting where they show up sometimes.

I'd never admit to knowing where a few come up in the backyard of the vacant house next door to us, but they eat just fine!
