At 61 years young I did my first ever turkey hunt opening morning. I lucked in to a piece of private land that had lots of turkeys. I was in the woods well before daylight and as soon as light started to break I heard at least half a dozen gobbles, several which were very close. About that time some one in the neighboring property started hammering on a call and called every 2-4 minutes. A little before 7 am I did a soft purr and yelps and the birds close by went nuts. About 5 minutes later I heard and saw them fly down as soon as they hit the ground I did another couple of yelps and cuts and had two toms make a beeline to where I was. Not 5 minutes after they flew down I had both of them within 20-25 yards, at that point I filled my first ever turkey tag on first ever turkey hunt! He weighed 19 #s with 11" beard and 7/8" spurs.

Sorry for the sideways pic, couldn't figure out how to rotate it

Congratulations on a hunt well played. Sounds like you did everything right. Very nice bird. To fix your pic crop it. Just make a small adjustment and re-save it. Not sure why but it will post correctly after that.

Very nice!

Welcome to a new lifelong addiction.

I started to mention that not all hunts aren't that perfect, but no need to dampen your mood this early in the game.
