This will be my first serious turkey season and just got a new to me youth Mossberg 500 I traded my 835 for I want to build it to my specifications but this was first chance to shoot it and was the factory full choke and some Federal mag shok in 3 inch #6

Wasn't that disappointed but will be making a run to bass pro soon looking for a choke and try some longboard xr and maybe heavyweight #7. I'd like to try TSS but not wanting to spend the money just yet.

It ain't terrible either. You can always get better, and I would try, but those shots would kill one at 30 yards. You don't have to have 220 tss pellets in a ten inch circle to kill a turkey.
Nothing wrong with tss though.
Don't get discouraged about that.

Longbeards #5's at a little over 35 yards. Dead bird all day long. Im shooting tss though, lol. Thats a 9" circle

Same gun?

What am I looking for in a pattern? I know I want to try and get even coverage but what's acceptable and what's not?

The old saying with just lead used to be 100+ pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards that is evenly distributed. That still holds true, but newer loads and chokes has significantly increased that. However, 100+ evenly distributed will still kill a turkey. You just don't have as margin of error.

Sorry about that. No its not the same gun. Mine is a CVA Scout single shot. My gun is very finicky with lead. This pattern is about the best i can get out of it with lead. #6's will do better but i don't trust 6's because of bad experiences with them
