Saturday was opening day in AR for the zone my buddy owns a couple hundred acres in. Due to an issue at work, I couldn't hunt Saturday morning so I left about ten thirty, made pretty good time, and rolled into Cushman, AR about 12:30 pm yesterday. Helped move a stand, insulate an activity room, ate supper, then hit the evening woods to try to roost some. Heard a single gobble right at 8PM last night.

Eased back in this morning and wound up across a deep holler from three gobbling birds...made a move at 7:15 this morning and wound up killing a nice two year old...23 lbs, 9.5 beard, and 7/8ths spurs. This was my first bird in a few years and only my second turkey hunt in four years. First hunt here two years ago, I put a nice long beard in my buddy's lap at 18 yards an he couldn't close the deal.

I believe I might go back.

Thanks...I'm afraid it won't last though. Confirmed CWD an adjoining county in the deer herd. I'm afraid many deer hunters will start killing turkeys during deer season and on up in the spring decimating the flock in coming years.

Congrats any AR turkey is well earned! Don't worry about CWD, we don't have a fall turkey season here. Of course our elk and deer are in big trouble. Hopefully the delta blocks the spread east, I'm afraid the coverage here is huge. It's not looking good at all.
