This is at 40 yards out of my benili m1 with primos jelly head choke.

Left target is 3" Hevi 13 #5
Right target is 3" win longbeard xr #5...... Yes that is where the wad went through the target, even though I pulled left I was very impressed with the win loads, esp at nearly half the price of Hevi

My test between the hevi 13 magnum blends. And long beard xr all patterned about the same out of my gun I love the price on the long beards but what I haven't done is tested the penetration of them!

I tested the LB 5's and 6's last year. Shot a soup can at 40 yards. All 5's that hit the can blew through both sides. With the 6's, all penetrated the front of the can and about a 1/3 past thru the back of the can and the others made deep dents on the backside. These were steel soup cans. Plenty of penetration to cleanly kill a turkey at 40.

For you guys worried about penetration of the long beards (I was too initially). My father shot a bird opening day at 42-45 yards and dropped him dead. He flopped around but was dead. No second shot needed. 40 ish yards is about as far as I will take a shot at a bird.

I wonder....has anyone ever cut open a Hevi shot and a copper plated lead shell and compared the density of the same number of pellets on a scale? also verses the number of shot in each shell? I want to do this but dang, shells are expensive!!!!

I shoot Hevi straight 7s, and have no issue turning birds a flip!! With that being said , I think any she'll will kill em dead if you put the pellets where they need to be!

Exactly, I have of stock pile of LB's and Hevi's. When I walked out the door yesterday I grabbed one of my guns and some Thug 5's. The bird I shot never knew the difference. I haven't even shot a bird with a Hevi shell in 3 seasons, all lead.

Not a good comparison. You need to shoot Hevi#7 to compare to lead #5. You may want to try the longbeards at 25, it is like rifle. Need to hold tight on them as people are missing because of how tight they are.
