GREED - They were given the best two weeks of the season to kill a trophy buck, and they know many people will not hunt during those two weeks. Most of these complainers probably have muzzleloaders that will outshoot any of the straight-walled guns. If you guys want to hunt with the old-style guns that we started with, you can noone is stopping you, but you don't deserve to have the best two weeks, and rifle hunters not be able to hunt during that time my muzzleloader cost more than my straight-walled gun but if both weeks were open to straight-walled I would take my scopes off my muzzleloaders guns and give them to someone who loves to hunt with them. I believe Daniel Boone would have traded for straight-walled if he had the opportunity

It typically is indeed the best two weeks of the season here. I am not gonna slam anyone one way or the other for their choices on how they hunt with regards to a straight wall during muzzleloader. I am in cwd zone and did take advantage of the opportunities we had a couple years ago, hunting early with rifle, was nice getting those early weeks where movement here was highest. That said, I have also hunted with my accura during rifle season too.

Some here are total hypocrits though, they have even posted pics right here in these forums of their kills with rifles during the muzzleloader season, they got to hunt quota or special hunts, zero difference in that and wha they bash. Some of those were also the same ones b!tching and moaning about it being unfair for rifles to be allowed early in cwd zone. Not hard to see if you pay attention...

You got what you wanted....right?
You say if someone wants to hunt with an old style muzzleloader then they can.
Same can be said for straight wall center fire rifle...use them in rifle season...but you got what you wanted....so why keep bringing it up? You can use your rifle in muzzloader....You can bait....whats the problem now? Is it that people dont agree with you? Some people appreciate the tradition of the previous season layout. You dont. Ok...you can use your rifle in muzzloader season even though its not a muzzloader. Hammer down.
So should muzzleloader be backed up into the last week of archery?....last week of October can be some great daytime activity for mature bucks. Do the dedicated bowhunters, as you say, "deserve" that week? Where does it stop?

Lol you got what you wanted, you came at it saying you wanted kids to have it easier when in fact you wanted it easier. I as a bow hunter 99 percent of the time it doesn't bother me. The path we are going down bothers me. Whats the excuse when you still can't kill a big deer over a corn pile with your straight wall gun? Thermal drones? Participation trophies is the culture we are in and sadly there's no end in sight. But by all means blame it on the people that will kill big deer regardless. Thats what many do not realize. They killed them before cell cameras, smokeless ml, crossbows being legal, without bait. Theres a difference in those guys that consistently get it done and those that do not. Aid to the people that do not all you want at the end of the day it all works out the same. I said when baiting got passed that people will still whine about not killing big deer I just didnt think it would come in the same year. You got what YOU wanted while trying to use kids as a cover. It shows your true colors. You reckon Daniel Boone hunted any public that its not allowed on? You argument is dumb. I look forward to seeing your grandkids holding a trophy in that week of straight wall.

LOL. typical.
You don't deserve the best two weeks. lol that's comedic gold.
I literally hope your neighbors kill your best bucks with thier straight walled guns!😂😂 the ones that used to not hunt because they were lazy and didn't want to clean a muzzle loader!😂😂
Seriously though, these changes will probably further embolden the cheaters.

Who cares hunt with whatever you like but if you say your modern smokeless powder shooting muzzleloader goes along with the original intent of the muzzleloader season you are lying to yourself.
Some more comedy. Using straight wall in muzzle loader is starting to sound like climate change or wearing a mask for Covid!!!
It's for the kids! It's the best two weeks! And now we have made it all the way around to the original intent. 😂😂😂😂wholey friggin chit. If you struggle that much with hunting. Read a book, get a mentor, watch YouTube, he'll seek one!!😂😂😂😂🤡🤡🐴💩 I guess a guy could make good money off yall putting you in a stand!

Please, just open the season on January 2nd and close it January 1st. Any weapon, no limit. Maybe then, little buck can get the trophy he so desperately wants. And his kid too.
His kid is probably 3 carrying a mossburg 12 with 3.5's turkey hunting cause he ain't no biech!!

Exactly!

Either go back to sidelocks only or get rid of muzzleloader season

I would be fine with the sidelock with open sights and happy to hunt with it if that's all that was allowed.

I don't agree with the straight wall or smokeless or even crossbows. I do use and inline with a scope. However, I bought it 25 years ago when I felt like I needed it to keep up with everyone else. Now, on my own property, I bowhunt 90% of the time. Public land, I use whatever is legal.

To each his own, but I feel like this is getting a little over the top in what's allowed during specific seasons.

And, yes, some of you reek of jealousy (in all the straight wall threads combined) that certain weapons are only allowed during the "best time of the year." Respect the animal, respect the process; it's not all about bragging about who got the biggest buck. If that's your goal, and it is for many, you have missed the point.

The real funny part is the straight walled cartridges don't hold a candle to the modern smokeless muzzleloader.
Whats even more funny is there's not a lot of people that hunt with smokeless. You can get on here and search ml threads smokeless isn't mentioned all that much, until the straight wall threads start.

Most of the straight wall cartridges are actually inferior to regular inlines shooting 120g of pyrodex.

Ill still be hunting with my Encore.

But I may get a 350 legend just for my 24 and 18yo girls who are still recoil shy. They have successfully killed deer with a ML in recent years, but they sure hated shooting it.

A suppressor on my smokeless handles the recoil really well. 🤣

I agree. Might as well just make it a regular rifle season.

No...you dont agree with me....I've said all along that they should just leave it alone...we already have a long rifle season...extending rifle into muzzleloader season, coupled with legalized baiting, makes no sense.
