Baby girl hung in there this weekend!

Never heard a gobble yesterday, we gave up at noon. Not sure if they weren't talking or we couldn't hear them.

Cold this am, but no wind. Maybe heard a faint gobble on the limb way off the property where we started. After flydown, we started covering ground.

Struck a bird 500y away at the head of the swamp. We dropped down into the swamp and cut the distance in half. He gobbled at everything, but wouldn't budge. Moved up a bit more, then nothing. I told Sophia he must be coming, get ready. Heard footsteps in the water behind us, she swung around, and it ended up being 2 jakes. One was strutting, I asked her if she wanted to kill him and go home, but she's a snob and refused to shoot a jake. We let them work off after losing interest then looped all the way around where the gobbling bird was. Never could strike him again.

Kept covering ground, and finally struck another bird at 11. We got set up, but not another answer to my calls. After a while, a crow called right on top of him and he gobbled again, about 125y away. I cut back to him excitedly, no answer. Played the waiting game for almost an hour with him giving me a gobble once every 15 min or so. We repositioned a couple times as he was moving slowly parallel to us, but never budged an inch closer. Finally, I threw out a series of jake yelps and he just broke and came straight to her gun. 20y shot, he took the majority of the payload and just dropped and quivered a bit.

2yo, 8.5in beard, 3/4 spurs, around 17lbs (no scale here).

Really proud of Sophia for hanging in there with me this weekend despite less than ideal weather. But we both loved every minute!

Fantastic!! Good for her for passing a jake as well! Love this! You sir have a fine lil Hunter on your hands and credit to you for a good job teaching her the ropes!

Congrats to her, way more patient than I would have been.
Thanks!

Way more patient than I used to be, but I've really slowed down staying on a bird.

I'd like to think it was my jake yelps that broke him, but realistically he was probably with a real hen for that hour. I bet she broke away from him, and thats what actually flipped his switch and made him come looking for another girlfriend.
