Not entirely up to date with old guns and optics but my dad passed and I inherited his old 30-06 that I plan to use next year … didn't have the time to get it setup this year. Anyways I'm going to post pics of the scope and rifle looking for insight if I should change the scope out and how well these old M77 were made.

L263579 is the serial # for the Scope.

There is something so special about getting your dad's rifle. My dad gave me his 25-06 since he doesn't hunt anymore. He said he had a gunsmith build it back when he was much younger. I looked at the engraving on the barrel and it was built by Al Biesen. Turns out he was one of the best in his day. I will treasure this rifle and pass it on to my son one day.

Definitely something special about using your Dad's rifle. My Dad passed away in 98 and I had been given his Remington Model 742 30-06 . I had it in the safe and not even hunted with or even shot until I decided I wanted to take at least one racked buck with it if I could. Took it out in 09 and passed on a nice little 8pt while trying to decide to shoot or not, and kinda regretted it at the time. FF to 2010 and hunting with the same rifle, in the same stand, saw the same buck, which had grown some, and after a long wait following him thru the trees up the ridge, I got the shot. Took that buck on my property(that my Dad was raised on), with his rifle, on Thanksgiving Day. And, after my Grandmother had passed away in May earlier in the year, as she still lived there on the property. It's the most treasured mount I have, even tho it's no monster. The memories of that hunt are still as vivid and sharp as the day it all happened. :) Good luck making your own memories with your Dad's rifle!

Nothing wrong with that scope. I can't tell what the range is (2.5 to ?), but a Leupold VX-III in high gloss is in big demand. The Walnut/High gloss guys would love to have that; you could easily trade that for a new scope, should you want a new scope.

Dad knew his stuff! Rugged, reliable, and effective set-up right there. Clean her up, check the zero, and hunt with confidence. When you aren't seeing deer, you can admire it and enjoy some great memories! Bonus!

It's the 2.5-8x36 if I'm not mistaken. 1984 model. Great clarity it seems but it has the friction turrets… which I am not crazy about.
