Looking for a small concealable carry pistol for my wife. Any recommendations from those of you who have already made that purchase? She shoots my 9mm well , 9mm / 380? Just looking for recommendations of a brand and model for her . Just something reliable . Thanks

Lady Smith 38 cal 5 shot revolver. Hammerless, point and shoot.

I think it is a model 642

Depends on how/where she plans to carry. My wife has different pistols for carrying in a purse or on her person.

FWIW I just picked up a pair of Ruger LCP Max .380s. With the 12 round mags (they come with one 10 round) and Underwood Xtreme defender ammo that's 13 rounds of hurt in a very small package with good factory sights (front blade is night sight) and a respectable trigger. Her's goes in her purse mine in my pocket.

Picking out a gun for your wife is a lot like picking out her makeup and clothes for her. Go to a well stocked gun store and let her pick one out and then rent it for a test drive. Otherwise you may be going through a lot of guns. Don't ask me how I know that.
Yep! She can shoot my 9 but I popped the clip out last night and had her try racking the slide. It was a struggle to say the least. That makes me believe a hammerless revolver is the way to go. I realize some slides work easier than others so the point you make is a good one. I also wonder about ammo, I have seen 9mm at different places but is 380 or 38 hard to find or is it popping up now. Thanks for all the information that is being given I am looking at each pistol and reading about it as you recommend it. This would be to carry in her purse . Thanks again for all recommendations!

All of the above are good choices. Whatever she chooses, make sure she learns how to use it, how to draw it quickly and how to retain it. Multiple rounds on target…as quickly and accurately as possible. Repetition and lots of it. Dry drills make for great practice and can be done at home over and over.

I bought my wife the Lady Smith .38, too. She prefers a revolver over a pistol. If your wife prefers a pistol, I'd recommend trying out the Sig P365 as a lot of women prefer the smaller grip. I also agree that you should take her to a well stocked store and have her try different models to ensure she feels comfortable with the grip and can work the slide/cylinder.

Just my observation. Women who don't have the hand strength to Rack a slide normally do not have the hand strength to fire a revolver in double action.

My wife liked the Walther ppk because it was sexy, but it hurt her hand and she couldn't hardly rack it. Next she selected an air weight j frame 2" because it was cute and light, but she couldn't hit the side of a barn and it hurt her hand, then we moved to an all steel sp101 .357 in a 3". It is quite a bit heavier, but not too heavy to carry and I sure wouldn't want to be 25' or less down range of her. I had it worked on and its now DAO and has a bobbed hammer. It carries .38s. Later, she picked a 4" N frame .357. I bought the smallest grips I could find and that is now her favorite car gun loaded with .38s and she is pretty darn proficient with it especially in single action.

My wife's hands and wrist are bad. She had a 380 ez she could barely rack and after two shots she was hating it. She now has a walther p22 use the Winchester silver partition rounds in it. She'll shoot a couple magazines before complaining.

Barring a legitimate physical limitation, proper training and repetition will build hand strength for either weapon. Training and repetition can't be emphasized enough. If they lack the desire and mindset to get enough training to be proficient and confident, carrying a firearm may be a detriment to both them and to the general public. In that case, OC spray, or a tazer may be better options. I know some women who will absolutely stop the threat and be reloaded before you can say "oh crap". I also know some who absolutely have no business carrying a firearm in public. It's not a slam on them, it's just the way it is. The physiological affects of a life or death encounter can cause some serious problems. That's why muscle memory is so important. Sorry, I didn't mean to go on so long.

Whatever we choose she will become proficient with her weapon. I wouldn't dare put her out with something that would do more harm than good. She is a country girl that actually out shot me with my pistol when I brought it in several years back. ( You guys can pull my man card) . She can flat out shoot , done the same to my son with a 22 rifle we bought him for Christmas last year. Very intelligent and catches on quick but was not around guns much when growing up. I was all explaining how to aim and stand when she shot my pistol and she hits every shot center mass. I politely ask her if she needed to go back in and speak with her mother some more instead of shooting with the guys! Lol, I just see the world going in the wrong direction and feel like it's time she learns , becomes proficient and carries when she goes places alone or for that matter she may have to help defend me !

I don't go further than my mailbox with anything less than a 9mm because of this story here...
This mom shot an intruder 5X with a .38. She was in the attic crawlspace above her garage with her kids blasting this guy as he crawled through the little doorway. She was out of bullets and he ran out, jumped in the car, and crashed down the road to survive and be released back into the jungle.
