Was considering building or buying a 300 blackout but did not want a 16" barrel for various reasons. With the government new ruling on SBRs and what not what options do I have? The water is a little muddy I just need some clarification. Register with ATF for SBR seems to be the only choice. Am I missing something else?

Two choices, well three but the last may land you in jail, you can SBR through ATF, or you can keep it as a pistol with just a foam cover on the buffer tube. The 300BLK does not kick much, so doing a cheek weld on the tube or using the sling technique doesn't pose any issues IMO. 10.5" barrels have proven to be optimum for most of my AR pistols. The third choice is to brace it and keep an eye out for the rulings, which so far have been showing promise to being overturned.
