Great question. I'll be curious to see what y'all say on this one. id say only 1% of the time I hunt it's during these hours and I was not successful.

I hunted it a lot last year due to work and picking up kids from school. Actually killed both my bucks around 1pm scent checking edges of a field where doe are known to hang out.

I normally only hunt mornings and evenings because those are peak movement times for deer, even during the rut. But deer can and will get up and move any time of day. Especially during the rut. I shot a buck cruising the edge of a doe bedding area yesterday at 11:40 am. If the rut is heating up in your area, hunt whenever you can.

Driving around today in Davidson county saw a nice 8 point run across the road at 1 pm. Never seen a deer there before. That seems like it might be the time.

So when gun season opens, kiss the bucks goodbye?
Not necessarily. I've used my bow on several of those. If you know your land well enough (finally after 5 years of owning and managing my land ) you know where the main trails are and where they like to move. Like catman said. When the rut is on. Your likely to see a buck at anytime of the day. I've just been really blessed the last 7-8 years. I've not killed monsters. But for my area they are good deer. Anything over 120 inch around here is huge and hard to come by.

On the flip side. My boy has killed 9 deer and in 4 years. 7 bucks and 2 doe. Youth day and then rifle season. This year he got lucky and hit our target buck. 145 inch 10 point on youth day. I've hunted 30 years and never seen a deer that big in the woods with my own eyes. He's ruined now. He passed a good 6 point last week. I just shot a 8 point. 6 point comes out. I get him turned into position. He looks though the scope. And said "nah, don't wanna end my season on a smaller deer". I was pretty impressed with his decision at 9. He knows now letting younger bucks walk pays off eventually.

I've noticed the last week or so the deer are moving later in the morning and then an hour or so before dark. Deer were moving good this evening around 430pm

My 2 biggest bucks were killed between 1pm and 1:30pm. If the weather is right and i am comfortable I like all day sits. Take in some food, drinks and a power pk to charge my phone.
I enjoy these as well but it seems like they make me awfully stiff the next day. All that sitting still is probably not good for the body.

I do think the big boys can pattern us. A couple times a year I'll hit the stand from 10 ish till 3. Always feels weird to leave then. It's usually a combo of mixing it up and time constraints on me. I've had success before.

I went back through my harvest pics to see how many have been during those hours, because I knew it was a pretty good amount and I have killed 5 really good mature bucks between the hours 10 -2. 4 of the 5 bucks I killed either in their bedding area on the ground or in a stand at the edge of their bedding areas.

In my experience I find that hunting mid day can be very effective during the cruising pre rut phase when bucks are trying to find and check groups of does. It seems best with optimal weather in specific locations (near thickets and transition areas). For me the last week of bow season this year while hunting timber transition areas I would see the majority of my deer after 10 am.

During the peak rut period and the week leading up to it I will hunt all day...I've killed some good deer between 10 and 2...and no it doesn't happen every year...but it's happened enough that I want to be in the woods as many hours as possible during the rut....pack snacks, water and battery pack to charge phone.... during slow periods I'll read...and if I can't hold my eyes open I'll take a quick nap..... hunting proven travel corridors during the rut can be exciting and I don't want to miss it.

I'll be napping at noon .
You and almost everyone else. In all my decades of hunting numerous clubs, leases, farms, public land, etc., I would say 99% of the hunters I was around get down before 11, go eat lunch, and come back for the evening hunt. Even on the President's Island hunt very few hunters stayed in the stand all day.

I've always enjoyed hunting midday. Mostly because if I walk in blind I can see more sign. On public I try and wait till 9:30/10 to walk in if there are cars in the parking lot. Don't want to bust anyone else's hunt up. This was I can also take the kids to school, which makes the wife happy.
