There is nothing like hunting spot and stalk from the ground with a bow. By far, my favorite hunt the entire year (although I still haven't killed one yet :) )
When they first put this hunt on the books a few years ago my arrogant butt thought it would be like taking candy from a baby! 4 years later I've learned a lot in regards to humility…Wouldn't trade one second of these hunts for all the tea in China! Cant wait to be in Kentucky next weekend!

Honestly around here with no ag to speak of, it's a corn pile hunt, that's what I hear from everyone.
I doubt it's just around "there". Suspect that goes on to "some degree" across the State, especially in hardwoods settings. If you have green soybeans, they can be a big draw late August. That is what I see in my neck of the woods, which is "good enough" when you are toting a firearm (Unit CWD last few years). 5-10 acre bean field is not guaranteed to be precise enough to pinpoint entry for archery hunting. It can be, but it's not a guaranteed, and the bucks have all night to ease out into the beans and eat while most of us are at home sleeping. Archery tackle (required in 83 counties this year) definitely makes it more challenging.

Played it from the ground tonight. Had a great hunt. 5 deer inside 20 yards. 3 of which were inside 5 yards. They were bleating like crazy back and forth. You couldn't hear them doing it until they were inside 25 yards it was very soft! No big boys tonight but I had a blast this weekend!
Wow that's incredible!! That story makes me excite for the season. All I saw tonight was a wiley coyote.

Private and public in KY. I had a bachelor group of 4 that were in the 140's patterned pretty well in a bean field that borders some private I have access to. That was going to be my plan until last week when some jerk leg decided to post a picture of them and exact coordinates to social media and it had around 150 comments on it in 2 days!!! Since then there have been 15 trucks pull in to "scout" on a piece that hasn't seen a car pull off all year until then…some people just don't make sense to me when they do this stuff. I get it it's public land and no ones entitled to anything but when people do that they really screw the guys who put in the leg work to find them on their/our own.

Amen!!! Amazes me how ignorant hunters can be with posting critical details on SM, that would otherwise take a lot of luck or leg work, time, sweat and equity to figure out. Some hunters have been doing it for a decade without learning very much.

Evan made it 2 years in a row with this Mature East Tn 8 pt (20 inches inside) Friday afternoon. Old deer at least 5 and field dressed 165 lbs without an oz of fat on him. I will say he has spent the time running Cams since mid July, and only found 2 deer that were even close to big enough to shoot. This one he actually got first pics of on Monday Aug 23rd and he was totally nocturnal (pics anyway) until he showed up 2 mins early on Fri eve.
