We have 3 Leupold's and two Vortex.

Can't settle just yet.

The Leupolds have been on the rifle since like the mid-1980's and I am fairly attached to them. Still, the Vortex glass sure is nice.

A guy could make some cash by inventing some galoshes for exposed turrets. I guess no one ever carried a rifle through weeds.

I realize your budget is way over the price of them, but Cableas has their Instinct HD scopes (made by Meopta) in 3x9x40 for $300. I've got one of these, as well as the Meopro that it's a clone of and couldn't be more satisfied.

Several really nice scopes have been mentioned. Meopta also has the Optika 5/6 line and of course the MeoPro line which are assembled in the USA. They come out of the same factory that made the old Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40s. The Instinct HD also comes out of that factory.

If you got a grand budget. I would sure take a look at the Loopie HD5s and the Nightforce options before dropping the coin. Zeiss v4 series also has some very nice sub $1000 scopes. Sport Optics had one for under $500 awhile back.

I got a Vortex Razor HD LH on closeout from Sportsmans for $350 and love it. A few are still out there for around $650 but at that price i would consider other options. I needed a 2x10 that was light to match my NULA. The new Razor HD LHT 3x15 can be found for about $800 if you shop around.

Leupold VX-R firedot.

The adjustable brightness red dot in the middle of the reticle really REALLY works well in low light conditions.
