I'm sorry about your reading comprehension. But if you'll go back and reread his post he said coonhunters suck. As in all coonhunters, and evidently you struggled with my other post when I called these so called "coonhunters" poachers and or trespassers.

No, my comprehension is just fine, and I beat you to the punch. Look at what was said lol, he didn't say all, just that coon hunters suck. So much for comprehension.

As it should. I think trespassers should face some jail time. That would deter quite a few of them.
 
I quit coonhunting years ago because you can't control where your dogs go. We didn't have all the fancy gadgets then. People used to not care if someone was coon hunting. When implants started moving in everything changed. I used to be able to knock on doors for hunting permission and 3 out of 4 said yes. Times have changed greatly.

It's more than a few. I'd say theres a good percentage as described because there's too many people with the same story. If you do it the right way, good on you. Don't gripe on the deer hunters, gripe on the coon hunters giving you guys a bad name.

I'm not Griping on deer hunters. Once again your reading comprehension seems to be lacking. I was just making an example. Nothing more nothing less.I'm more of a deer hunter than I am a coonhunter. Sheesh!
 
Well having been around a lot of coon hunting growing up from Mi to all over Tn I never heard the first word about crossing fences or going to the dogs unless it was in somebody's yard, this was from the early 60's through the 90's, maybe all of them have aged out and didn't teach their kids the improper way to hunt. I do know that hound hunting has dropped faster than any other type due to the time and $$ it takes to train and keep them, I miss the days of no deer to worry about sorry ass dogs running lol

I was asking more from a biological and logistical planning perspective. As I said, I'm not a coon hunter so I'm mostly ignorant to the why and how and when. Traditional seasons make sense to a point but once there becomes an evident conflict of interest it seems the easiest resolution would be to separate the seasons.
 
I'm talking way out of my wheelhouse here, as I don't coon hunt. But years ago around here, people didn't care as much about trespassing while hunting. Heck, before serious deer hunting, they'd wave at you and ask how the hunting was. I'm talking coons, squirrels, rabbits, arrowheads and such. Most really didn't care and hoped for success for the hunters.

Deer hunting changed every bit of that, and as more people crowded in here, spaces got tighter and new land owners became more protective of those smaller parcels.

It'd be tough to be a coon or rabbit hunter today.

Kudos for you for being responsible. MANY of your fellow coon hunters are not. IMHO I think the consensus among those of us who are being trespassed on is that coon hunters who trespass and aren't responsible suck. Not ALL coon hunters. Coon hunting fills a need but is NOT an excuse for trespassing or violation of any law/ordinance.
