Crazy what it all costs now. Paid about $80 for only 300 lbs of 34-0-0. Crazy.
5-20-20 was $640/T in the bag last week. Wished I could get a buggy to all my plots but no can do.

I will prob switch back to VNS wheat next year to save an extra $10 per acre.
I spent right at $35 per acre just on seed... and I cut the amount of clover and radishes just to save a few extra dollars.
Gas is likely to be $4 per gallon next year, so that is going to hurt input costs as well.

I put about half the rate of dry out at planting this year and have been spraying over top with ultrasol triple 20 at 10lbs per acre in 20 gallons of water and have had good success.
The liquid fertilizer is a much more cost effective way to go and it's feeding the plant through the foliage so it is available to the plant quicker than through root absorption.

It's crazy. VNS wheat is the only one that seemed to stay at the same price at $13.99. I bought 50 lb bags of crimson clover @ $67 a bag back in August. Had to buy another one last week and it was $94. I love planting blends, but had to simplify this year due to costs. Wheat and rape were one mix....wheat, rye and crimson clover in the other. If prices are this bad next year, I may consider all brassicas.

I paid the same for rye this year as last year. Everything else went up though. A bag of whole corn is double what it was last year. Wait until that cost makes it's way to the grocery store.
I didn't see much (if any) increase in seed cost this year. Did have some availability issues though.

Glad I'm not the only one with the Crimson Clover. I paid the same prices you did in August and then this week mid-90s for a 50# bag. What a massive jump.
Hit List Seed Company. It was actually $54.99 for 6 pounds (1 acre).

Geez! I bought a 50 lb bag of rape in August for $75. Rape is broadcasted at about 8 lbs / acre, so that one bag would plant over 6 acres. That comes out to about $12 / acre. Either that company is wayyy out of tune, or prices have really gotten that bad. Nonetheless, things are looking like we are in for some really bad times ahead!

Shop elsewhere next year. That is insane. I paid $80 for a 50lb bag of radishes a few weeks ago. Part of my homemade blend at 3lbs per acre (with peas, buckwheat, rye, and balansa clover)
Brassicas if bought by the pound should be in the $3 to $4 range.
It's the purple top turnips that are so expensive. Buying the cheapest seed available might work just as good, but this stuff was money last year. The deer would not stay out of it.

Very true. I priced out PTT last year and they were crazy expensive. I really wanted them in my blend, but just couldn't justify the cost. I didn't even price them out this year because I knew they'd be even worse than last year.

I just bought 1 lb of purple top turnips and 1 lb of broadleaf mustards and planted my winter garden 5d ago here in south MS. Both were $3.95 by the pound (same price I paid last year).
I wonder if this a supply issue and price gouging based on availability by locale?
Between the increased price of fuel, fertilizer, and seed, it's going to be hard to justify the supplemental planting program I've been undertaking. I may have to convert some of the areas back to native browse if this continues.

$4 a pound for PTT sounds really good. It's not a local thing because we order these online and have them shipped. I think it's more of a "name brand" thing. Are their seeds better quality/more productive? I have no idea. Probably not. We just knew how the deer loved it last year and didn't want to change anything. When you only have an acre of plots you can afford to buy whatever. Now that I have my own tractor I plan to at least triple our plots next year, I'll be more careful about what I spend per pound on seed.
