jumping into arguments all the time.. I am strongly opinionated by nature so I like to say what I think whenever people are arguing over something. And when I step back and look at all the bickering on here I realize that most of these are really stupid arguments. I have my opinions in most of them, but they are not really worth worrying about in most cases. Is everyone here like me and just think that their way is best and will argue about anything if someone disagrees with it? :D

Catman, I still catch myself pulled into forum arguments from time to time, and it's usually to defend a post that someone has taken issue with, whether it's mine or someone else's. Unfortunately, much of the time after the thread has unraveled, I don't feel like the truth has been vindicated or that there was a good, respectful and informed debate. Probably would've best just left it alone, and kept things in perspective.

We all get passionate about what we're passionate about, though. As an exercise in being positive and hopeful for my fellow man, I check out forums to (hopefully) learn from other folks wisdom and mistakes. It happens occasionally. ;-) However, even though RESPECT when both posting and reading posts should always be job #1, the impersonal nature of the internet seems to be fertile ground for both misunderstandings and careless trash talk. I try to give folks benefit of the doubt, though. There are no laws against posting while under the influence, posting before having morning coffee, posting in the middle of the night because of insomnia, posting after getting the cold shoulder from your woman ....you get the idea.

By the way though, since getting back on here after my four or so year sabbatical from hunting, your posts aren't in the camp that I steer clear of. Keep 'em coming.

The world is made up of protons, neutrons, electrons, and unfortunately, morons. Sometimes you just have to overlook them.

Ever hear the saying, "young, dumb and full of ..."? When I was a young man I thought that was a compliment. It's ok to argue and debate...heck, that's pretty much what we do here...it's when the debate becomes nasty that it isn't ok. Personally, I like hearing from the younger ones on tndeer as long as it's not immature name calling mudslinging....While BSK is the elected resident expert I'm sure he would agree with me that many of you have some great ideas and I learn as much reading your posts as anyones. So, I say, keep getting into the debates but keep an open mind.

Obviously, I love a good debate, for numerous reasons. Debating is an art form I enjoy practicing. In addition, I'm an opinionated person. And if it isn't painfully obvious yet, I do enjoy stirring the pot from time to time just to rile people up. But often I jump into debates--even ones I don't really have a dog in the fight--simply to get people to use a little reason and logic. Unfortunately, both of those are often in short supply. Without reason or logic, we are lost. The vast, vast majority of what we as a species/society know about the world around us has been discovered in just the last 300 years, since the concepts of reason were developed during The Enlightenment. Without reason, we're just a emotion and superstition-driven animal, without knowledge.

This is the internet. Nobody comes here looking for reason and logic.

Correction: nobody comes here looking for reason and logic twice.

HA!

From what I read on here sometimes, I wonder if some don't think "reason" and "logic" are words from another language.

It's usually not worth the trouble! Plus, you get into the old "thought to be a fool" proverb :D !

Proverbs 17:27-28
27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Hollar, I think you need this as your signature: "I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong" :D
