I hate it when I bite into a piece of shot when eating squirrel. A .22 rifle is my choice. It adds another dinemsion to the sport. If you're going to get a mess of squirrels with a rifle, you've got to use stealth. If the squirrel discovers your presense, you're likely to not get a shot. A .22 just puts more "hunt" into the outing. I've bagged many a squirrel with a shotgun, buy my favorite is the .22. I think the .22 is also more humane. Most of my kills are quick. With a shotgun, they tend to crawl around a lot before they die. But that's just me. To each his own.
