I am going to buy an at but cannot decide between a 223 or 22lr. I really want the 223 but I know I would be able to shoot the 22lr much more for much less money even though I reload components are high these days. What do you guys think I should get? This is my first at.

223...and buy as much ammo as you can..Do you have a Ruger 10/22? If so you can put a tapco T6 stock on it,with some 30rnd and 50rnd mags you can the same fun with it as you can with a dedicated AR in 22lr.

to train your muscle memory and shoot a LOT I would get the M&P15-22 first,,

never underestimate how much it will help you by shooting a 22 a bunch through a rifle on the same platform as your big gun..

Good advice! Also when you get ready to buy a .223/5.56 check out the M&P 15 Sport.

M&P15-22 is the best firearm purchase I have ever made. We have ran 1500 rounds thru this rifle with only ONE FTF. And that was due to a very light round. It just shoots and keeps on shooting. I clean it about every 500 rounds. You cant go wrong with this rifle in my opinion.

Check out the .22LR uppers from DPMS. I wish I could publicize the malfunction rate, but I'll say it was amazing. You can buy your 5.56/.223 and slap the .22 upper on there and use your regular fire control which is a major benefit.
