yea my son got interested and i tried to get advice on certain spots on here to no avail. well i got addicted while out looking. however, i did get some good advice on what to look for and now i have my own certain spots that it would be hard to give up. keep asking some of these guys will tell you what to look for and how to go about it. the peices will have a lot more value to you when you put the work in, trust me. it will be a lot of quality time with you and your son also. Don't look for just "arrow heads" look for flint. flint chips, cores, bladlets,etc. Do some research on indian artifacts and you'd be amazed at some of the things you might have thrown back down other wise.

I am no expert but a man once told me that if you find a creek that one side or the other has a flood zone and the land rises above that zone look there. I tried it and it worked. when i follow this method I have never not found one. the first creek that i looked at had a high bluff on one side and about a 50 acre field on the other with that rise in the land arrow heads everywhere on that rise beyond the flood zone. when I say everywhere I mean I found 4 in 30 minutes. it is hard for me to imagine how big of a camp or whatever was there. Also the same man told me that the area is usually hidden or easy to defend if that makes sense anyway I have only looked in three places and have found them in every place that I looked. Everyone has given good advice but this may say it the best.........
My 2 cents is to look for a place that you would like to camp. Most likely the Ameri-Indians had that same feeling. This works well till you decide you want to collect Paleo artifacts then you may have to move in to the more swampy areas to find those. Good Luck.....post photos!bobthebowhunter said:

if the is a lake that the water rises and falls ,due to what ever, walk out on the long points .and shoreline.. it is amazing if you look at all the rocks around , you can tell where they sit and made arrowheads and all kind of tools , hand size pieces of white quartz, are a scrapper , pick it up ,and your fingers will fit there groves ,, they chip into it , to get a better grip .. on skinning anamals ,, and if you look real hard , at alll the rocks , you might think man has been around here a good while .. ,just my nickels worth.. any red clay banks with white quartz laying all over them is a good place ..

under the rock shelters look for southern or easterly facing openings, the sun would help keep warm and keep the cold wind out. blackend roofs from many fires under them. there are exceptions though.
