i have about a acre on a hill top that is been flaten out. its had clover planted last couple years, but seens like the deer want eat it after the first frost. whats the best fall food plot, to atrract deer, that would last till jan. i have several acres of feed plots in the bottoms. i want this to be a hunting plot! i need to plant next couple months to hunt this year. thanks for any help!

If you have several acres of plots in the bottoms and your natural browse is in good shape,. you might have a chance with winter peas. Winter peas are pure deer candy for a food plot in the fall,.. such as soybeans in the summer. Normally,.. you would need a 2 acre spot or more to prevent overbrowse on winter peas ,.. thats were your other food sources might help you. It would be worth a try!! BUT,.. if not,.. oats is a VERY close second. Just make sure if you plant oats they are a winter variety,.. buck forage oats are awesome,. but they have gotten very high in price,.. IMO. I have also used plotspike oats,.. they are very good also. The most important thing to remember with oats or any grain is your gonna have to but down extra nitrogen for it to keep performing thru winter.

awesome! thanks for the suggestions! can u blend winter peas with winter wheat? and whats the difference between rye grass and winter wheat. pics look the same?

Winter wheat and winter peas can be mixed together. Winter wheat is more prefered over rye,.. just as oats is more prefered over all the grains,.. wheat is also cheaper,.. and rye can be very hard to control. For the price,.. its hard to beat winter wheat seed,. which is better to use pure seed instead of feed wheat.

The difference is that deer prefer wheat and oats much more than ryegrass and ryegrass WILL become a weed problem in any future cool season plantings. I can think of no situation where I would choose ryegrass over wheat or oats for a food plot.

The bags said it covers 11,000 sq ft. You planted about 6300, so I wouldn't add anything else to it. Food plots aren't necessarily any better with multiple species in them.

winter wheat is great.

But what I have planted the last 3 years that is
a great late season plant is Feeding Frenzy
