I am headed to hunt Stewart County in West Tennessee this weekend. Last year a tree company cut down a large group of pines off my lease. We had a road bed cut down the middle of the pines. This year, the area is grown up a bit, but the road bed is bare with nothing. Is there anything I could plant down that road this weekend that will come up this winter? I was thinking winter wheat or winter rye, but I don't know with the ground being very acidic from the pines being there at one time. If I do plant one or the other, what can I do about the ground being acidic? Any suggestion would be very appreciated. Thanks

Crimson clover would be another possibility.

Would expect the roadbed to be so compacted you'll get nothing to grow without tilling.

Also, one problem with top-sowing wheat is that turkeys and other birds may eat it all before it could germinate.

Not doing well over in west TN. I'm worried this rain is going to fall apart, only to redevelop over in eastern Middle TN, skipping western Middle TN.

I'll try to plant something and hope the rain comes. I am leaning toward the winter wheat. Once I plant it this weekend, there will many rain dances.

Been surprised at how much rain has fallen in Dover past couple hours. Thought the system had mostly petered out again before it got here. But looks like it hit Paris Landing and gained strength!

Unfortunately, BSK, doesn't look like Humphreys Co. is getting nearly as much as a little farther north. But radar says you've done OK.

Unfortunately, about 0.10 inches, same as we got with the last rain. Not enough to sustain plant growth.

Looking better for a rain next Thursday.
