I would think buckwheat and soybean may be a decent complement. At least that is what I am thinking due to their nitrogen fixing abilities and aiding the soil and nutrient content.
If you have a plot that doesn't have much cover around it but you want deer to use it more, try WI Power Plant or Pennington Seeds Spring/Summer deer mix. They are the same plant mix. They grow about 6 feet tall which means they provide cover plus feed. The benefit of this is that your plot becomes cover so that deer feel safe in it 24 hours a day. This is the one planting that I have used that gets consistent use no matter where I put it. Frost kills it but if you mix corn in with it, you still have feed and also it stays tall so that the cover benefit lasts all through deer season.
The Pennington brand is about 1/2 price by the way.

Guess my 1st try would be the 3-point-hitch fertilize spreader I have. It'll hold about 500lbs. Sure would be covered with lime when you got done though.
